I wonder if they asked any of these people their opinions...because there's a TON of these Videos on the interwebs right now. My GF thought one of them was a new movie at first...

Won't be proven to be one or the other until the 6month mark. The amount of money EA has agreed to give to Lucas Arts for the IP usage negates a LOT of the 2 million box sales profits.

@majorfalcon00 Agreed.

Bioware deserves some congratz, they got over the first hurdle of a successful launch which is no small feat for an MMO. But we've seen MMOs with successful launches go south later on.

The real test will be at the 6 month and 1 year mark. It's more than just making a good game, it's providing a constant and entertaining service to the players. The really interesting results won't be for few more months at least.

Negative. LucasArts will retain upwards of 25% of all profits once development costs and infrastructure costs have been recouped by EA. That means that all box sales and most of the first 3-4 months of payments will go straight to BioWare's coffers, not LucasArts. It's only after BioWare gets clear of the development cost that the mynock named George Lucas will latch on and start sucking.

LOL!!!!!! I just had to log in and post a response. I've pretty much given up on massively as a my source of mmorpg info due to how the posting system works. I get tired of cowardly down rating of any post that isn't a glowing fluff "OH I love this game" sort of post. I include this not just for SWTOR but for a few other mmos threads I've seen over the months posted here.

I find that though I like the writers here and I love the layout, that the down rating spam and lack of debate on subjects we are all interested in caused me to focus more on another mmorpg website where at least the fanboys had to post their opinions if they didn't agree with you. No silent mass downgrading of a post without showing your ass if you being an asshat fanboy.

Anyhow Faction 3, thank you for the laugh on the whole Tortanic search results for Youtube. I gotta share that with the wife, she'll be very amused as well. About the only reason I find myself checking the site every few days is to make sure I am not missing any new news that maybe the other site might miss. So far that hasn't been the case, but still I like to cover my bases. That and the fact that at times I find myself with a morbid fascination with seeing if this sort of mass down rating is continuing.

I think you'll find that a lot of people are in bed with the large production houses.

You're right about this website and a few others in the AOL network.

what other websites are you visiting? i'm looking for some fresh air.

@(Unverified) George retired months ago. I'm not even sure he has *anything* To do with Star Wars anymore aside from being it's creator.

And still he gets unnecessary blame by the rabid mass. Unbelievable.

Been reading and posting more on mmorpg dot com lately(again). I like that you are not just silent down rated into nothing there. When the fanatics don't agree with your stances/views at least they have to post and show their ass if they're going to be unreasonable.

I would like to find another site like Massively that covered more industry news across the board like Massively does. I mostly focus on mmorpgs, not fps or mobas.

My issue with mmorpg dot com is the dark layout, never liked starring at dark web sites. After watching all the quality incgamer video links posted on mmorpg dot com about GWII, I might have to give them a look and see how they are.

Btw last week I kept an eye on the SWTOR servers during mid week, every hour noting the server loads for all but four hours. (Being a retired insominiac I sleep little) I never saw more then 2 to 4 very heavy server loads and only upwards of 10 heavy server loads for short periods of time. Most of the server were standard and light of the 120 or so US servers, EU less then that even.

Been meaning to keep a log from Friday to Sunday morning, just haven't been that driven to do it. I know what my gut is telling me. :)

Obviously, you lack any kind of literacy...nowhere in my post did I say or hint at failure or success...I simply posted a link to SEVERAL videos that are pretty much the polar opposite of what this current Video is attempting to point out.

Hooked on Phonics did NOT work for you sir...

Good for them. I'm glad things went so well, rather than foaming at the mouth for not being 'my MMO', I'm rather happy that MMO's are still viable to people.

@Rokenroleg. Congratulations on this sensible and mature post. I feel the same way - I played SWTOR since release and recently quietly stopped playing because I thought it needed another couple of months of development but will definitely go back and am pleased that they have achieved a modicum of success and also pleased that companies are investing in MMOs giving rise to debates about what is the best game and what has succeeded and failed, as opposed to having only a few MMOs to talk about :)

I think they may have jumped the gun with this video........6 month mark is generally the best time to start celebrating/panicking.

@majorfalcon00 Well this video shows that they got passed the first major hurdle, The Launch. It's got off without any server crashes and doesn't have that "still in beta" feel that some mmos have when they first start out.

I really, really like The Old Republic.

No one can deny it is the smoothest MMO release in years (probably since World of Warcraft.)

I would even go to say it's the best MMO since World of Warcraft (or tied with Lotro, can't think of any other good MMOs)

I'm really happy that finally an MMO has done exceptionally well, critically and commercially.

Congratulations BioWare!

I agree with the best since WoW. I have played so many MMO's between SWTOR and WoW (with WoW being my 1st), and none of them have seemed like 1st rate games. I also started messing around with Rift about 3 weeks ago with the Rift lite thingy, and although it seems like a good game, I much prefer SWTOR. Just my opinion. Guess we'll see if GW2 lives up to the hype this summer.
