I'm of the opinion that it is (and always was) Bioware's intention to hand-over to LucasArts at some point. Bioware is on record as saying "when we have finished with The Old Republic..."

Everyone knows you are never FINISHED with an MMO, it is always evolving. That statement from them cemented for me the suspicion that thaey will hand-over at some point in the future and let LuxasArts Devs carry it forward.

I mean, for Bioware it doesn't make sense to slave away for all time on Lucas' IP when they have a new StarWars for the 21st Century in waiting in their own (100% Bioware-owned) Mass Effect IP.

It does when they set up an entire studio whose sole purpose was to make and maintain the game. BioWare Austin was made to make TOR, nothing else. It doesn't pull from the development of any of their other games. Though I hear that BioWare Edmonton(the hope base who did the ME games among other things) did make the space combat part of the game(hence why it feels so different from the ground game, with no integration with anything in the ground parts).

@SiML I'd at least like to know WHY we can't make edits.

@SiML

You do have an edit/delete function. It's called proof reading what you wrote.

@EuchridEucrow People do make mistakes, (even scanning over what you wrote/typed, one can skip over errors) otherwise there wouldn't be erasers on the ends of pencils.

Too bad you cannot go back and correct your post. Proofreading is one word.

okay so now i'm convinced there's something very wrong. first there was Drew Karpyshyn and now these three, does it strike anyone else as odd that they suddenly left right after launch?

They're probably pissed that they are stuck with the HeroEngine(the unfinished engine Bioware purchased for SWTOR that causes spell-lag)and there's no easy way to fix it.

Who knows, we'll either never get the truth or never believe the truth, it's a never ending circle.

@(Unverified) No, that is how game development works. Also, 98% of people 'concerned' had no idea who they were prior to this article.

@(Unverified) Drew left because he is a writer, and is actually taking a break from the gaming industry all together. The other three does not even start to make up a big part of BioWare's team. Keeping in mind that for most developers, after launch the team gets down-sized. This was not the case with TOR, as the entire team that was there for development, is still working on the game.

The game industry has a way of people constantly changing hands. You do not get a job at Blizzard or BioWare and stay for the next 25 years (Some do, but the majority do not). It is very much project based, you complete one or fulfill your role and you move on.

Do people forget that Gordon Walton left BioWare a year or two ago as well? He was one of the main guys that was behind getting TOR up and running and left to work at a friends company.

Now if EA announced massive layoffs, that would be a warning sign, but three or four people leaving? Hardly.

And I would guess that 95% of the readers couldn't care less about the comings and goings of programmers. This stuff happens all the time but anything TOR especially if it could be controversial will generate the hits. It's just business.

Good for them. Moving from a corporate environment to their own studio should be a very liberating experience. I hope they produce an inspired and creative game.

@Joaquin Crowe I agree.

Frankly I'd take it less of a thing about SWTOR, and more about working under the yoke of EA.

From what I hear from friends in the industry (who work there) the management is really janky, and would likely drive me insane in the long run.

I'm not a fan or good with RTS games but I'd love to see what these guys come up with, even more so since their hands aren't going to be tied to a company like EA.
