Really wish we could have gotten diametric opinions both reviews are basically commercials that don't talk about any negatives and all games have them.

100% gush pieces are pretty useless IMO

In comparison to many other reviews and impressions I've see very little difference to these ones. Perhaps the game is actually that good that feedback has been mostly positive. Can't do a negative piece on a game when there is really none to find. /shrug

I think it's pretty natural for largely positive views now consider those who are selected are already big fans of the franchise. I mean no disrespect for the authors of these impression, but readers should take in consideration of natural bias of stuff.

@Dunraven I agree. I mean, maybe the game is awesome in general... but it would have been nice to hear from someone who isn't so invested in the general Guild Wars setup.

Both impressions are from people who have clearly put a lot of time in the original... and that's an important, great perspective to get. But I would have liked to hear more from someone who wasn't quite that invested and had less experience with the game.

But that'll come eventually, I'm sure.

I agree. There are lots of people who were bitterly disappointed in GW and those who found it boring. I'd like some impressions from those who left GW to see if their problems have been solved. Fanboi/grrl impressions are expected to be positive.

I also play a healer - at least 4 specs in WoW. It appears I'll have nothing to do in GW2 except join the DPS. Jsut because you may be bored with the Holy Trinity, doesn't mean that some people don't enjoy the roles.

So far unimpressed with the graphics shown in the video clips, but I did like the fighting while lying on the ground bit ;-)

Looking forward to a neutral review or even a first impressiion.

@donweel I would also like to know how this runs on the systems the authors used. I just built a new computer and somewhat half-arsed the graphics card in terms of quality. I feel like I may need a new one if this game is going to run at what I'm thinking it will.

I should probably know this but I'll ask anyway. Is GW2 all instanced outside of the hubs, as GW was? Or is it coherant world as with most other MMO?

thanks

It's been said for a long time it will be a persistent world, not instanced.

It's pretty cool that you got to play this over the weekend. I'm pretty jealous! Having participated in a few beta tests for other games, encountering only two bugs and one crash over a weekend of playing is damned impressive to me. I'm glad this game delivered to you and I hope it's everything it's looking like it will be! Any word on a collector's edition?

Kotaku wrote that the game was laggy as sh*t at some places, now I doubt it from what anet told about using old computers. But what is your experience with this? and is it possible that the lag that did appear was caused by the servers not being able to comply with the huge amount of players?

Rift tears are nothing like dynamic events stop comparing the two or people will get the wrong idea, many many writers are making this mistake and is starting to become misinformation....

Rift tears are static non world influential mob killing quests, the only thing random about them is they popup anywhere, there's no fail scenario and no continuation, and if you leave it alone, it will simply close itself after the timer runs out.

GW2 dynamic events on the other hand are nothing like that, they have multiple scenarios, multiple ways to contribute and there's a fail / win consequence to them that pushes the chain along a good or bad track.
if the village is captured by bad guys it stays captured until players come and retake it.

how is that even remotely comparable to the crappy tears Rift wants to pass as dynamic events.....sheesh, get your facts straight before posting!!!!

/end of rant.

@kurosenshu I think they sound cool, but by those standards neither is "dynamic".

@kurosenshu

I'll submit that you are correct that dynamic events in Rift do not have a fail scenario (i.e. The world eventually just resets in the event of a failure), insinuating that the only dynamic content in rift is the rifts themselves is being disingeneous. Rift has massive zone-wide invasions that occur randomly throughout the day and new ones are added every few months. One of my favorites involves chasing a giant armored dragon all across the zone Ember isle (which is currently the largest zone in the game) to prevent it from taking over the four sourcewells on the island, and that's hardly a "static non world influential mob killing quests".

Don't get me wrong, I'm super hyped for GW2's dynamic events, I just think you were being unfair with your criticism of Rift.

Oh my. I really can't wait for this game to be released now. And a quick question, you mentioned trying every class by deleting characters. How many character slots will be available per account? I would love to try all the professions and all the races so that I can pick what my preferred ones are, but have no idea on how many slots will be available to start out with.
