Guild Wars 2.

Everything else is just a child's play.

@Traptz Tons of hype always means a game will be good. Just look at TOR!

@slickie

Except ToR had a release date almost a year in advance and was released on that date even when the game wasn't nearly finished.

GW2 has no release date because they're not going to release it until it's finished.

A game with hype behind it doesn't mean it will suck. A game being released too early because shareholders are getting pissy will suck, ie: TOR

Just so you know, no one in mass market games, or software at all ever releases "when its finished".

Ever. They release when the money, and budget, and project people say its time. Sometimes its too early, other times its mostly not, but that still doesn't change the fact that theirs always going to be people very close to the project, that wanna put more polish on X, or bring back cut feature Y, or fix more bugs etc.

Pretending Guildwars 2 is the first project to come up with this brilliant idea of shipping "when its ready" is only going to propagate BS that ultimately leads to community dissapointment. Trust me, they may not be openly disclosing dates, but the production and planning people have a ballpark in mind, and the entire development staff is going to be burning down their worklists accordingly to meet those estimated dates, and we're going to end up with a shipped game in the end. If they don't execute on things to make a great game, it will be crappy, if they do execute things that make it awesome, it will be great. One thing is for certain, they will eventually run out of time, they can't itterate on crap indefinately.

Theirs a saying in the industry...

"You can polish a turd till its time to go gold, but that don't make it gold".

@Traptz TOR's release date (Dec 20, 2011) was announced on Sept 24, 2011. That's less than two months, not almost a year. BioWare certainly teased it and gave quarterly estimates that moved several times, which is not really any different from the stringing along Anet has been doing. Ask anyone who played GW1 when EOTN launched when Anet said GW2 would be coming. :D

TOR was OFFICIALLY announced in Sept but those of us that followed the game for the last couple years knew that it would be releasing holiday's 2011 nearly a year in advance. There was even a few "leaks" that pointed to December.

@Kalex716
Gonna go ahead and just assume that you don't follow GW2. After reading your post I can tell you don't or you wouldn't have said what did.

Go read dev diaries and interviews, things that don't get posted on the front page of Joystiq are the things you should be reading.

I can promise you GW2 will have a 100% better launch than that joke of a game SWTOR.

BTW Biowares main problem was buying an unfinished HeroEngine and never fixing it.

I played the beta for SWTOR, not the weekend beta, the real beta. I was praying that the finished game would be completely fixed. Guess what, it wasn't.

I've played GW2 at 2 different conventions. Both times for over 30 mins and I can tell you from experience, the game felt better than TOR did at release.

"This week, we learned that ArenaNet is (still) working on a console version of Guild Wars 2"

Um, this actually isn't true. While NCSoft did tell their investor's that it was being worked on, it seems there was a language barrier issue.

Regina Buenaobra of Anet even posted this on GW2 Guru....
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=98826&postcount=4

"Hey, all. We saw this come up on the investor call, and wanted to respond.

I just want to reiterate that the development team is fully focused on making GW2 the best PC MMO ever released. We have a very small team exploring the possibility of console, but there are no definite plans for a console version at this time. The core of Guild Wars 2 development is fully focused on delivering a fantastic PC MMORPG experience."

So rather then being confirmed, or that they are working on it, all that seems to be happening is a small look see on the possibility of making a console version. That's a far cry from "ArenaNet is (still) working on a console version".

*Sigh* Guild Wars 2....

People are going to be sorely disappointed when it's not the second coming.

Not saying it's going to be a bad game as I'll be buying it, but it won't be the game everyone is making it out to be.

I'm not hearing anybody make it out to be anything. All I hear is people are glad of the direction the devs are taking it, similar to how Blzzard use to be. Of course it makes sense since it's former Blizz people at ANet who don't face the obstacles the current Blizzard does.

Believe it or not, the game isn't being hyped very hard except on select sites like this. The overall majority is either unaware, or only have a passing interest.

This happens with every new MMO release that looks like it'll be good. Personally, if they make it a good game, I'll be happy. If they pull through on making it an E-sport proper, I'll be fanatical

Yeah, Im not hearing anyone make it out to be anything, really....perhaps its just me, but the only "fanboi-ism" Im seeing is people looking foward to the new approach the game is taking towards the genre, and the fact that its actually trying something different...rather than the same tired ass gameplay being "reinvented" every single year...

You know there's always the possibility that GW2, along with any other game, will suck, be disappointing and meh. As there is the possibility that those games will be great, meet everyones expectations and fantastic. But I am willing to be disappointed and walk away from the game if it's not great and/or not what I am looking for, as I am willing to embrace it when it's great and/or something I am looking for.

So what's my point? To remind you I don't really needed to be reminded of this. But also to point out there's nothing wrong with having a bit of optomism, especially when the evidence is currently suggesting we maybe more than happy with this GW2 when it releases. /shrug

I don't get it. Why are all these people coming out of the woodwork saying GW2 is being hyped up?

If anything this game is doing a good job staying under the radar.

Have you seen any commercials?
Have you got details on limited editions?
Have you seen pre-order bonuses?

No, so where's all this "hype"?

Well, personally I think it's because I believe fans of other games don't want GW2 to succeed and it's clear it will be a different kind of game, or at least is making an honest attempt to be different, and this has some people worried. Why, I don't know. But having been on WoW for so many years, it's exactly the same type of reaction I saw from the blind there.

I find it HILARIOUS that a few days ago when people thought this was true GW2 was getting bashed like no other. What is the excuse for poor aesthetics and everything now?

GW2 will either be good or bad, either way it won't cure world hunger or make me play football like Pele.

I will still give it a bas though.
