Looks like the blog post isn't up yet, but your writeup has me excited for it :)

WvWvW has been one of the features I've been most looking forward to hearing about since they first mentioned it. Dark Age of Camelot was my first MMO and I recall reading in the one Reddit thread that Anet has quite a few people who played the heck out of DAoC back in the day. I really hope this can capture that classic RvR spirit I was hoping to get from WAR.

I cannot wait to leap into this. For some reason in my head I'm imagining the fantasy-equivalent of the first ten minutes of Saving Private Ryan.

They said in their Reddit AMA that each map would be able to hold 500 people in total =(

@Nasq 2,000 in WvWvW would have been pretty sweet, but I still think 1,200 will be really epic.

@Nasq Yeah man, I'm really disappointed it will only be able to hold 300. That's 1200 people for the whole Mists! Is that it?

@Nasq I'm just afraid that depending on the times, this will either cut people out from participating or not have enough people on at a given time to do something (ran into that issue in DAoC sometimes).

Keep in mind that 500 players per map is quite a lot. Also, I believe it was stated earlier that this number is before the optimizations that are sure to follow, perhaps even before launch, so the max number we get might be actually higher.

BTW, I believe WoW actually had server crashes when more than a couple hundred players were battling at the same time and place. Anyone else remembers Nortrend crashing every two hours, shortly after the Wintergrasp battle started?

@Nasq

Yea was a little deflated to hear that too. Don't know how big the maps are as "These are the largest maps we can make in Guild Wars 2" isn't really saying much. And if the action is at the central main keep map, will there be tons of players just bouncing off a zone wall line trying to get there once that 100 number is reached?

Although at the same time 100v100v100 in a lag free setting of a fantasy MMO is still really impressive and should be fun. Just being gated out of PvP due to a mechanic will really be frustrating. Balanced of course by the fact that there is no monthly fee, but still frustrating.

@Nasq The blog says "over a hundred people from each server fighting on every map." There are 3 servers and 4 maps. So I think that means 100 people x 3 servers x 4 maps = 1,200 players total.

@c0gnit0 Hmm, what do you mean depending on the times? Since it's pretty much always going on, I'm sure there will be moments where there won't be many people in WvW, but it'll be like that on all 3 servers most likely so I'd imagine you could probably go in with a buddy or two and maybe capture one of the resource points and start collecting supply.

On the flipside, I'd imagine there might be times during peak hours where there might be a bit of a queue but allowing >at least< 400 per server to get in on the action is pretty damn good I think. We'll just have to see how that aspect plays out. I'm sure it hasn't been a problem so far since it's only been tested in alpha and small betas, but over the next couple months they'll have an opportunity to test it with a larger audiance and hopefully make it so as many people that want to participate can do so.

@DarkWalker

I love the idea of WvW

Warhammer touched on it, then they had to zone cap it because of performance issues.

In all honesty i think this will get scaled back pretty hard. I hope im wrong.

On that, times of day, if the servers are split regionally over the globe (ie servers for the us, for europe, for asia, etc) some of those weeks are going to be a bit...easy like Europe vs US just due to the big time zone differences. If there's an "unofficial" Australian server they'll clean up against USA (and vice versa) since peak playing times are when the other is sleeping.

Just about every time a new GW2 article comes out, I get excited ALL over again for release. This kind of PvP sounds so badass!!

This sounds like a total blast! I also like that they have varying size objectives, and that it takes multiple people, and time, to create a siege weapon, then they have to hold it. Using resources to upgrade and repair, using some of the local inhabitants to run interference. Luckily, the PvE content scales your character, so I don't have to worry about out leveling an area because I gained 20 levels in WvW.

I'm withholding some hype until we get information on the cash shop. The change in wording to the terms has me spooked, and I'd prefer to hear about exactly what they're going to be pushing in there before I invest much more energy into wanting this game.

Sooner rather than later would be preferable, Anet.
