Good news, gamers! You can now blame another dysfunction (if you have it, and I'm sure you don't) on the games you play! It's not enough that those nasty ol' video games are making you violent and antisocial -- a new survey put out by Brigham Young University is linking online gaming with a decrease in marital satisfaction.
The survey states that "gaming widows," whose spouses neglect them to focus on gaming, are dissatisfied with the states of their marriage. How that differs from corporate widows, football widows, or any other neglected spouse without a catchy title isn't really specified. Another conclusion pointed out by the survey is that when spouses play together, the marriage tends to be in pretty good shape. Who'd have ever thought that spending time bonding over a shared interest would be healthy for a relationship?
While we're all in agreement that your level 80 Paladin probably doesn't deserve as much of your love and affection as your spouse, if you hadn't figured that out on your own, gaming probably isn't the root of your problems. Just a thought.

Wait, people who prioritize games over a relationship have relationship issues?
SHOCKING AND INTERESTING NEWS!
So people are finding more scapegoats instead of accepting the fact that they are stupid, self centered hedonists instead of acting like a normal human being.
I'm so proud to be of the same race.

Gotta love THOSE kind of people: "You can have fun and enjoy your life as long as it's our brand of fun and enjoyment. That means nothing we disagree with! It's not as bad as it sounds, we only disagree with a few things- like everything! Have fun!"

@Cyroselle
Well yeah, I mean Brigham Young was the second president of the Mormon Church. Obviously there is some bias, but I'm not even talking about religion. There are pious and atheistic people both that have these sort of views. There are also plenty of good people, religious and not, that have open minds and just want other people to be happy as long as they aren't hurting someone(against their will of course, apparently some people do enjoy bdsm). This hypocritical closed-mindedness is why I avoid websites like reddit, and also one of the reasons I've moved away from some of the pious aspects of my life. I cannot stand phony crap, and both sides are full of it. (Sorry for the upcoming anti-reddit rant) I cannot stand reddit mainly because of the stupid "hivemind" concept. It's not so bad until someone happens to disagree... I mean I would even understand the clustered downvoting of someone else's opinions but reddit claims to be openminded and accepting. This sort of hypocrisy is just the same that they protest against churches and "stereotypical conservatives" for. That said, if a friend does happen to send me a link to reddit I won't ignore it completely, I usually just try to refrain from reading the comments though.

@Deliverator Like what? Not trying to pick a fight, but it's fun to hear what other people have to think.

@Joshua Przygocki Nah, no worries.
I actually have managed to stay out of Reddit for pretty much the same reasons you've listed in your rather low-key 'rant'. :D
There are some cool pointy-roofed special club people too, I'm happy to admit, even tolerant ones, but the social morons that share their membership tend to make all of them look bad by default.
That's unfortunate, since that's stereotyping as well. :(

@Cyroselle Stereotypes exist for a reason, that reason is they are mostly true. For example: I like PC gaming. I am not large by any means, fairly skinny and lanky, but actually starting to develop a bit of muscle and bulk up a bit(not growing, just from work and whatnot). I can be somewhat socially awkward, I wear glasses, and I am of above average intelligence, even with the things I am bad at. Am I the perfect stereotypical computer nerd? No. I'm not excessively obese or the excessive opposite, I'm not THAT awkward, just occasionally. I don't like metal music, I'm bad at math, and I like pretty things like flowers and butterflies along with pretty colors(I am straight, and I don't mean this in a flamboyant way, I just like wearing more than bluejeans and a grey/black shirt).

You know what? I'm not really sure. I went back through your comment history to see and didn't really see anything I didn't agree with. So, I apologize for the mis-statement. I'm not sure why your username had that association in my head.

So take out the word 'gaming' and we have the earth-shattering conclusion that neglected spouses feel unhappy. I think your last paragraph sums things up nicely.
Too bad they didn't just send you a check for a few thousand and save themselves a lot of time and money to come up with that earth-shattering conclusion.
