After playing the beta all weekend, I really do not get the amount of hate this game draws. It's fun, really really fun. People seem hung on "it's asian" as if it has leprosy. I can't help but feel like it suffers from a "my friend has a friend who has a room mate who says it was bad" sort of effect.

Niche? Yes. And good. How many games have tried for general wow-killer appeal and failed? Give it a try yourself, and form your own opinions. Then when you have them, don't attack those who's opinions differ from yours.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Although I've essentially said those exact words before, numerous times - but let's call it a tie! Lol.

That's because of the bad-move made on En-Masses part. People think because of westernization the game it means to purge every single aspect of asian from the game. And it involved putting these players in a small "unimportant box".

Bad move.

It's gotten to the point where non-asian is being treated as a leprosy. Folks got these attitudes now where they think that these players don't matter yet they play the asian games and are acting like they don't exsist.

Sure TERA might be good for a year or so but I can already see this game being over-ran with all the bots and gold-miners and troll trash who are waiting 2 months in advance. The trolls and fanboys have already bashed TERA.

Has En-Masse lost some respect because of this? Yes. As far as I'm concern i'm going back to Final Fantasy. At least there anything asian isn't treated like a disease, and the company considers it's player feedback important.

Not all these stuck-up players who've been feed off games like Guild of War.

I also believe bad release dates and poor localization team play a huge role, a game being release a year/half longer than Korean and what has changed? The text is now English. Wooo

When other studios easily get out a multi language MMO, TERA has no excuse imo. =D Through this long long way and other high + free competitors, i think that has rocked its release.

@vekien

Spoken like true ignorance. They did not just say "Woo, the text is now english!" They added hundreds of quests, streamlined the leveling because they know no one wants a stupid Asian grindfest, added a /sit emote (and maybe others, idk), added a multitude of more customization for characters than the original had, etc.

@(Unverified) I showed the ad to my nephew, who explained to me that the bald man was a mixed martial arts trainer, and we both found it amusing.

Who hasn't wanted to judo-throw a larper?

"As distasteful as it is to me personally, at the end of the day I can simply opt out of things I find offensive."

I'm curious how you opt out of having scantily-clad teenage forms dancing on top of every mailbox you need to use? Certainly you can avoid playing one yourself, but is there a "Make all Elin invisible" setting?

@Buhallin This is the biggest problem. I tend to think "sure, if I don't agree with I just won't deal with it etc.". But you just know others are going to abuse it, and that can potentially ruin enjoyment of a game.

@Zyrusticae

Well said!

I find the Aman females revoltingly disgusting and the Baraka dumb/boring, so does that mean that I will now b*tch and moan about their presence in the game? Nope, I just won't play them. Having a large race selection just gives more options to more people. People need to just learn to enjoy what they like and not worry if someone likes something different. I find the Elin as one of the more lovable races ever presented in an MMO and if some people chose to view than otherwise then that's their problem.

Back in the dark ages I played WoW, back then I wished there was an option to turnoff scantly dressed dark elf's that where dancing on every mailbox begging for gold.
In every game there will be idiots abusing/polluting the system in some form or manner.

i usually steer clear of games that have art assets such as this, although not for the reason one might think.. usually in games like this i loath the community. However so far from what i've seen from the beta and forums it isnt nearly as bad as i feared and is in fact better than many games i have played

Keep in mind that some people are so prude as to make polygons land you in jail. Those people would be the US police if they believe polygons are representing underage pornography.

How is the controversy any different from any other MMO to be released? Even SWTOR had its fair share of controversy, and even now faces it with the same sex options on the horizon. The only deciding factor to the success or fail of this is the play factor and if people are willing to pay $15/month to play. So play the game and decide for yourself if this is worth the time.

@jaedrian

There is a giant difference between a game adding same-sex relationships as content than having pre-teen and barely teen avatars displayed as fetish objects with barely there skirts and cleavage baring tops.

But we're not discussing the content of the controversy, just whether the controversy will hinder the game. As just about every game out there has something that either attracts or repels people. I was just saying that we won't know it's success until the game comes out and people subscribe to it or not.

Everyone will have their own opinion on how upsetting content is. Apparently in asia having a race that looks like a little kid where revealing clothing is not too bad. But same sex marriage in an MMO has some groups boycotting certain games.

We'll see when it launches just how detrimental it turns out to be I guess.

frankly i am in love with the game so far. closed beta went VERY well (for first time the servers were up i mean)

when it comes to the lawsuit, I dont really care. When it comes to Artists (which is what developers are) versus thier company, im going to side with the artist.

elin are well...elin. hahaha its sure to cause some fuss but I'm glad they are in the game. Tera has a great selection of races and since different armor looks different per race (example that T1 armor would look different on all the races) it really makes the game vibrant and different.

After playing with a few freinds we already think we will be moving our game to Tera (from SWTOR. ) I was a huge fan of SWTOR but the raiding is not all that great and its simply a wow clone.
