So much for the previous comments about how SoE doesn't care about its players :p

This is fantastic news. Very happy for everyone who's a part of that community :)

Can't help but think there's a catch in this somewhere, but still, good news for Mac players.

So does that mean that eqmac will be f2p with none of the stuff that normal eq1 will have and also will stay PoP? If so I might have to get a mac os...

@Catsar

I can't tell if that's a serious question, but I'll reply. Yes, you need a Mac to play EQMac. Check out the following link for information.

Too bad the SWG community wasn't such a "wonderful group of players", eh?

Win some loose some I suppose. Maybe they feel a little bad aout that and that helped the EqMac cause. Also the little EQMac server probably costs nothing to run.

Also, EverQuest belongs to SoE. They can do whatever they want with it. SoE's license to the Star Wars IP had run out, continuing to run SWG would have required renewing the license which, from everything I've heard, wasn't something Lucas Arts was too keen on doing with TOR coming out soon.

@potaco I'm pretty sure that was more Lucas than SOE. And I'm still holding out hope that SWG as a system will come back, just with different skins.

aye, lucasarts chose Not to renew the swg license with sony...some said it was coincidence the renewal came up right before TOR, other not so much.

Nice move by sony with eq. publishers must realize for mmorpg's to grow players can't be concerned about the games shutting down.

As if SOE had any choice in the matter? I mean they were patching in large chunks of content till the very end, just to prove a point.

I take back all those bad things I said. Sony has a community spirt at this point and I am very surprised. John Smedley is doing great things. Keep up the good work you made me a believer.

so.... EQ free with no F2P BS?
I think OSX running as a virtual machine would handle that. Hmmmmm

Will be interesting to see the 'details' the tweet mentioned. I would assume zero support is one of them. Not that that's probably a huge deal given the 'maturity' of the codebase.

(From the eqmac forum)

Ladies and Gentlemen, some of you may have read this on the official forums already, but thought I'd drop by here to share this as well:

After announcing our intention to sunset EverQuest (EQ) Mac in January, the response we received from the passionate EQ Mac community has resulted in our decision not to sunset the game at this time. Moving forward, we will be removing subscriptions from EQ Mac so that it will be a free game that everyone can continue to play and enjoy. We will look closely at Mac for our future titles.
