Yes Sir I did.... The game was fun although I do not intend on either buying it or subscribing. This decision is of a personal nature and not due to the quality of the product as a MMO.

PS. You guys going to get some Aion Euro beta keys :)

I played on the EU test (unable to get a US key) and it went fine, the whole weekend had barely any lag, I hit the beta cap (lvl 22) and did the dungeon, all went well. Game is not too bad, but no PvP action other than death-matches outside of the city.

@Nasq

True, but those team deathmatches outside of the city were a BLAST!

I haven't had that much fun PvPing in a very long time, and I can't wait for the release of PvP servers.

Yes, I was in the beta. It capped out at level 22 and since you can get to level cap in about 15 hrs most people that got in right away were capped on sunday and didn't have much to do. Couple of impressions of the beta (not of the game)
1. First 2-3 hrs of the beta there was some server problems and one of the two servers kept crashing while the other server had a queue of over 2000 players long (~ 1 hr wait). This was eventually fixed and there were no server queues for the rest of the beta.
2. There was a huge amount of trolls in this beta - I literally had to turn off area chat, LFG, and trade chat because of the enormous amount of trolling, spamming etc people were doing. The community was absolutely terrible and you can't ask a question without someone give a troll response in return or make some reference to WoW/SWTOR. Apparently most of the trolls didn't actually pre-order and got it through the IGN prime trick that rolled through reddit/4chan (purchase IGN prime, get beta key and then cancel).
3. Fair a bit of kill stealing - the biggest hindrance to your leveling is actually other players - they will race to you to your mobs, attack whatever you are attacking etc. You see more players than mobs in some areas. For some of the named monsters there was actually a line waiting which majority of the players respected.

In terms of the game itself, it was quite good. It wasn't as "action-based" as they advertised - the combat is actually pretty slow paced and boring at times for anyone who is ranged since all you do is click buttons 1, 2, 3 and aim your cursor at the enemy. The boss fights were cool though.

I'd have to agree with you there, I got in after all the server issues, but those chat channels where full of it! I did the same and turned em' off.

My overall experience was a good one, an enjoyable romp through a high fantasy realm. The kill stealing got a little out of hand in the heavily populated areas, but generally there was no problems questing.

Trolls will go away once its time to put the money on the table.

I preordered this game and cant wait to get in to see what it has to offer. I think the place is beautiful and the explorer within me is dying to check it out. I'm still looking for a game that will pull me in like WoW's BC did. I play SWTOR right now but it just inst enough for me yet. Perhaps it will become the game that takes up all my time, but until then I'm shopping around seeing whats out there.

@dulfy This is a pretty good assessment of the weekend, well done.

I would definitely recommend you try a melee class; I tried the archer and I was having fun with the traps and stuff; but the classes I had the most fun with were the Slayer and Lancer class (The Lancer takes significantly longer to kill stuff, and big groups of mobs are a problem; but I love tanking and the Lancer chains are tons of fun).

Playing as a Slayer or Warrior tank is crazy fun however, because you have to dodge a lot and that makes the combat very dynamic.

@Bigcheez Aion had a lot of kill stealing and PC vs Mob pop imbalance, and crazy EQ-esque mob-training during its closed betas as well, but thankfully NCsoft actually developed a tag system, bumped up the respawn timers and fixed the training distance before the game went live in the West.

Despite my misgivings for that particular game, I feel that NCSoft West did their best with what they had!

My impressions

Finaly a MMO with gameplay that is actually FUN.

You maybe grind. But at least you want to grind because its so fun to do it.
Skill actually maters, and skilled player can even solo elite boss.

We were always told that twitch based open world MMO wouldnt work because the lag.

TERA proves them wrong. Open world ala WOW, no instances or shading whatsoever. And zero lag.

In fact the game looks better than Rift and runs much better , even on low end machines

@Lobotomist Agreed on the graphical optimization. Ran as smooth as silk for me, and I am on a 3-4 year old laptop. 2.4ghz dualcore, 4gb ram, and a gtx 9800m video card. If you were thinking about getting this but not sure if it will run, I played it on quality preset 4/5. Looked beautiful and constant 30 fps which is pretty damn good for my lappy.

@Lobotomist

Yea the game ran like a dream. Lag free no FPS bumps and i was streaming in 720p HD for my guild at times and still nothing.

The combat is a blast. I can easily see me and my guild spending a lot of time in this game for that simple fact. I did a lot of PvP (I'm a hardcore Pvper) and its the best PvP ive had in a game yet, when it comes down to actual player skill. The content for PvP was lacking mainly because PVE server were only available, but hat said I can see the potential it has.

Classes are pretty balanced. Meaning there was no class I was afraid to duel or unafraid to duel. Anyone playing there class well has a chance in this game. Can't say at lvl cap, but what we've been given so far is pretty good. Few tweaks here and there and it will be golden (those tweaks could already be in and just come later on).

All in all I am definitely considering this as a purchase. But I still have TSW and GW2 to beta so who knows. Maybe one of those will sweep me off my feet and throw me on a horse and ride me off into the sunset.. doubt it but who knows.

@Joshua Przygocki Oh! That's good to hear! I use my occupational workstation for my gaming, so although it's a robust machine, a top of the line gaming machine it isn't, and I sometimes have a rough time with poorly optimized game engines.

So it's super explorable too? Not a glorified box-canyon game?

@Cyroselle I got to see the newbie zones. I saw the rails, but was not offended as I have been so often when I couldn't cross a water barrier or jump obvious inclines.

That isn't to say it didn't feel like a cattle chute. Lots of people, lots of loud. A good amount of 4chan invaders and the usual hooligans, but at the same time you saw people queuing up patiently six or eight deep to wait for a BAM to spawn and a lot of what I call 'cooperative crowding', where the frustration of seeing someone fail leads others to help for the sake of everyone's time.

@Joshua Przygocki Remember this also that before next closed beta we are going to have to download another 7gigs of space. We pretty much only played TERA if you played on the max settings at half power. So the graphics will be even better on the 2nd CBT.

After 2 days of not being able to log in and 3 hours of having the client crash as soon as they dropped me into the game I gave up. Maybe the next beta weekend will be more stable.

That has to be client side because the servers were packed with people who were not crashing at all. Hope the next one goes better for you.

Yes I was in beta and it has convinced me to purchase it. There was 1 bug i had to report. It ran super smooth and was the only MMO since darkfall that had fun combat.

Yes, played it most of the weekend. At the time I thought it was good but other than the free-aim targeting there was nothing ground breaking about it. The lore wasn't particularly interesting but the combat was a lot of fun and the visuals are great. However when I logged back into SWTOR last night it felt linear, static and un-interesting compared to Tera and I felt myself really wanting to play Tera a lot more. The combat is really its selling point and will keep people playing because you are more involved in it. I may or may not subscribe as TSW is coming at the same time but I would love more MMOs to copy its combat style!
