Going toe-to-toe with your first big, recurring villain in a final showdown is an important moment in every superhero's life and an experience that DC Universe Online players will get to treasure in the game's next content pack. The update will bring Brainiac, the main scumbag since DCUO launched last January, to his knees -- and bring players to Paradise Island, home of Wonder Woman and the Amazons.
Players will find Brainiac as he's assaulting the Amazons' island and have their final confrontation with him there. But don't worry about the ache of missing your main antagonist, heroes! If there's one thing that comic books have taught us, it's that you should never count a villain out for good -- and that the conclusion of one story arc doesn't mean that things are going to settle down at all. As Jens Anderson (Creative Director for DCUO) says, Brainiac's future isn't settled; his fight "will be an ongoing one as he tries to recover from the player's resistance and future Luthor's manipulation of everyone... The story will then move into a new phase, but Brainiac's actions will always have a lasting effect on DC Universe Online." Moving forward, players can anticipate learning more about the shady figures of Future Lex Luthor and Future Batman.

You had me at future batman. Seriously, go watch the CG movies. Future batman is amazing. Depending on how it plays out, i'll give it another shot, but i'm happy with Rift again while i give SWTOR a while to shape up some more.
If you haven't tried it, DCUO is a pretty good MMO and def worth a try.

A quote from the PC Gamer article's author makes it sound like there are three raids but they are separated into three difficulty tiers so that even fresh 30's can see the content. Or that there is one raid that has three difficulty settings like WoW's latest raid does.
Josh Augustine of PC Gamer says:

@Aerius I just got out of a 3-hour demo on all the new content coming in the expansion. I can't talk about it yet, but the content is dispersed across all 3 tiers of difficulty, including fresh 30s.

I dunno if I would call a dlc an update since as only those who pay can access it...

Why not? It's new content and you need to pay for access for that content; be it through your subscription, which gets you automatic access without any additional cost, or by buying the DLC pack so you can access it without paying a subscription. This is how every hybrid F2P MMO I can think of does things.

I might be wrong, but isn't this a free update, and part of the general raid cycle?

Funny cause those are roped off only to subs users. You can't craft ANYTHING worthwhile with the cash limits in place for the mid tier users, and certainly not for the F2P.
This essentially does make the game P2W and that's a damn shame. I was fine supporting the new DLC content packs, but I can't in good conscience justify supporting the P2W model.

You're arguing semantics now. Other than calling it "DLC" rather than a "quest pack" or whatever, it's exactly the same as every other F2P game that makes you pay to access new content. Your original post said that it shouldn't be called an "update" because you have to pay to access it, which doesn't make sense.

Just because there's a .01% chance I'll get it as a drop does not excuse it, and just cause you don't mind pay to win doesn't make my statement a "cop out". Yes, in theory you can trade for them, but at extremely high markups. Especially when you factor in that money glitch SOE didn't see fit to rectify in time.

So having to subscribe to the game to be able to hold enough money to be able to craft high end gear is "pay to win"? How is that worse than a game where you have to subscribe just to play at all (or play past level 20)? How is it worse than having to pay to access that content at all in the first place? Or how about expansions, shouldn't those be pay to win too since you usually have to buy them to get access to higher crafting tiers?
Your statement might not be a cop out, but it makes little to no sense.

Ah that's going into the ever-present subs vs F2P arguement. I know most people on the F2P side only support cash shops when they only sell cosmetic stuff, though I usually don't mind buying DLC if it's really meaty on new content. I don't know anybody that likes having to pay for good items, though subbing to get better items is another whole debate.

semantics set out by SoE, you have to admit a majority of people aren't bright and if everyone starts calling DLC's updates when SoE have gone out of their way to call them different names it'll end in "but I was told..." type dramas all over the forums.
