Derek Smart's Line of Defense shows off battle environments

Last year we got our first look at Line of Defense, a new MMOFPS from Derek Smart and his team at 3000AD. The title is looking good so far and the devs are certainly eager to show off their progress. As such, 3000AD delivered five brand-new screenshots showcasing the environments and outfits that players will experience, including desert and snowy terrains.

Line of Defense takes place in the same game universe as Smart's Battlecruiser 3000AD series, and promises to deliver "open-world FPS mayhem" from the depths of the ocean to the heights of space and everything in-between. As far as I'm concerned nobody has done an MMOFPS right, yet.

So I'm glad to see anybody jump in the game.

@Pingles Face of Mankind was close, but the shooting gameplay itself was so mediocre.

You've never played Shattered Galaxy, I take it. Every MMORTS I hear about gets the same question from me: how similar is it to that game?

@wufiavelli He does have the right to defend himself, even if someone says something about him negative and he is not here.

@malakhi70 oooh yes he does, and provide us with tons of internet entertainment. Its basically Akin to watching bum fights on MMO forums.

The real news here is that Derek Smart still has a job.

Derek Smart is the herpes of video game development.

How is this even an FPS? All the pictures I saw were from a third person perspective. Which is not necessarily a bad things as there are good games from that perspective, but the claim of being a FPS just has me confused at this point.

I will pass.

some screenshots look similar to global agenda but I take it it's quite different. will be interesting to see how this fares against planet side 2.
and if mr. smart has become a bit more "smart" from developing battlecruiser.

Ten years from now, an actual (though now terribly dated) game!

My skepticism comes not from his poor personal reputation as much as the fact that the previous FPS game with Smart's name slapped on it (All Aspect Warfare) was an absolute mess. The fact that his goal for this game is "confusion and mayhem" doesn't help.

Hey, he has some excuses! I mean, it couldn't be his fault! Did he mention he has money?

That would imply that people still buys his games, which seems unlikely in this day and age.

I have yet to see a game with his name on it that is actually good and not a broken mess.
