DUST 514 may be a PlayStation 3 exclusive for the moment, but CCP has confirmed that the title will offer USB keyboard and mouse control options. CCP Jian broke the news late last night on his Twitter account, though there's no word as of yet on whether using a keyboard/mouse combo will translate to an edge over players who are using a PS3 controller.
DUST is a sci-fi MMOFPS set in CCP's New Eden universe, and it is directly connected to the long-running EVE Online MMORPG. Players take on the role of ground-based mercenaries who fight for territory control and share the universal economy with EVE's capsuleers.

Ruh Roh. Why would they do this? You're building imbalance into the game from the offset.

I donno. I've never heard anyone complain about a mouse and keyboard advantage in DCUO on the PS3. It might work out alright.
And I'm getting the picture that this shooter won't be a precision game like Counterstrike. It will be more like Global Agenda where targeting precision is fudged.

DCUO isn't a first person shooter.
Every study done on the subject has shown that kb+mouse will ALWAYS dominate over any console controller (regardless of platform). Analog sticks simply can't keep up. Players with kb+mouse will win, players with joypads will lose.

@Nerves Anyone can pick up a USB keyboard/mouse combo at their local S-Mart for 10-20 bucks.

@Nerves So just buy a keyboard and mouse. If you can afford a PS3, you can probably afford a k/b.

Wow it's just one bad decision after another with Dust. Now anybody who wants to be competitive will have to have a mouse and keyboard or get wasted by those who do.
I cannot wait to see this thing tank. Hopefully it doesn't take Eve down along with it.

Pathetic.
They develop a PC game , with only audience interested being PC gamers.
But they make it Playstation exclusive.
Like they are trying hard to lose money

It's a misguided attempt to break into the so-called "lucrative" console market -- and it's a big, big mistake. CCP is really good at making bonehead mistakes. They don't make small ones, for sure.

And yet, they think that "millions and millions of people" will play it...HAHAHAHA, good luck with that.

@ApathyCurve Heh, that is a good way to put it. When CCP messes up it is always seems custom-made for gaming websites worried about slow news days.
I agree with the other comments about this being a ridiculous move, but then trying to break into the FPS market with a game that places console gamers in a setting controlled by PC gamers is ridiculous anyway.

Does their PS3 exclusivity agreement exclude the PC, too? Makes me wonder if they're planning to release on the PC at some point.

They have said that its possible. The PS3 will come out first, but it will be out on PC at some point.
As of right now, they're leaving so much money on the table if they don't. The funny thing about Unreal engine development too is, if it works on PS3, it pretty much already works on PC too so again, they would be really stupid not to release on PC at some point.

CCP did say that there only PS3 exclusive for an amount of time. This is just going to make an even playing field for when the PC launch comes (if you see the glass half full) or create imbalance for controller players (if you see the glass half empty).

Wait a minute. Didn't CCP claim that one of the reasons that Dust wasn't being developed for PC was the inherent imbalance between mouse/keyboard and controller?
Lame.
Lame.
