For some reason I typically found Woodcutting more enjoyable than Mining. Somehow I could cut wood for hours in Runescape yet hated how tediously slow mining could be.

I used to laugh every time I saw guys boat mining with unattended macros in UO.

Mining, because having a pack full of gold ore just feels good.

What about the EVE player? Your resource gathering choices are Mining or Ganking. Both net you roughly the same amount of minerals. :)

(Seriously though there's more than one type of resource gathering in EVE. The two big choices are Mining and Planetary Interaction. I usually choose PI, but I'm coming around to Mining in nullsec.)

Woodcutting in RS was strangely relaxing... met some nice people, didn't fight too much over nodes and the trees were in pretty nice locations.

@Shmoot Doesn't matter which mmo it is for me I strangely find wood cutting relaxing. I have no idea why but I can feel tension drain out of me as I swing the axe repeatedly at my bosses neck ... um ..... tree :p

Woodcutting. I feel like there aren't enough games that use wood as a resource so I find myself drawn to woodcutting whenever a game allows it as a profession.

If you've ever cut down a tree in Vanguard, you'd vote for woodcutting. That sh*t is epic.

I cannot play any mmog that doesn't have great crafting and resource gathering(no ...sending a crew member out to collect resources doesn't count)

Mining gets raw materials for strong metal weapons, heavy metal armors and magical jewelry. Wood is only good for Bows, Spears and practice swords.

Which ever is more profitable, that is the determining factor for the majority of players.

You find the crafting skill in any game that can produce the most money and you go to town on it to get rich.

When you first launched I used to mine because there was a group of rocks right near the blacksmith in the town I hung out in which meant I could overload myself and not have to go far with the drop move a few steps pick up method which you used in UO to move with far more ore than you were supposed to be able to carry.

It's surprisingly difficult to pick, but have to go with mining cause you can make sexy shiny armor and bling with the mats...
