@Lenn

Hm? As far as I can tell, this is a player run event. Not sure what Turbine or SoE specifically have to do with any of this.

@Ehra Giving people the means to organize events like this one will take care of their "low level players can't get gear" problem. Turbine, or any other company for that matter, would do well to encourage such events, rather than opting for the store as the solution to problems.

@Lenn
Turbine provides a forum to organize these types of events, it's up to the players to step up.....which they just did on January 17th, just 2 weeks ago

This is the kind of shit you get with smaller communities and why I love them so much.

EQers have always had a core of gold, that's why I've never stopped playing.

Personally I find this type of twinking to be detrimental to the game.
Not only are you dummying the MMO for newbies and training them to expect handouts, but deriving them from the pride of earning their own way.
This type of twinking simply hastens their departure since they will have less attachment to the game world not having earned anything.

@Jorev

Yeah, if there's anything that hastens my departure from a MMO it's the players showing that they're able to come together to organized events like this, are happy to help new players, encourage others to do the same, and have an active desire to foster a positive outlook among the community in general. I hate it when that happens.

Most of the stuff given away is things like 40 slot bags and totems that grant invisibility and food .. but there are a few rare "twinked" items too ... the whole point of it is really to generate some goodwill and the past two events have been spectacular for doing just that. You walk away feeling like a million bucks .. at least I do :)

@Ehra
I have a novel idea.
Instead of pretending to be welcoming by giving away crap you don't need or want, try grouping with some newbies and being social and helping them earn some items.

Would've been nice if half the gear wast tradeable.

That really bugs me about MMO's lately most of the stuff is BOE or BOP, making the ecconomy worthless.

Bring back tradeable items and item degeredation to MMO's imo

I absolutely love to see this happen in an MMO.
I've been on the receiving end of this sort of deal a few times, and I've been generous with advice and crafted gear every time the opportunity has presented itself. It really helps with building a strong server community. Nice one, EQers!

"He's asking that interested participants meet at the crafting area ..."

*cough* .. She :)

Thanks for the lovely write up. I see Miss Amnerys has been up to her hijinks, but it's nice to get word out about an event that truly renews your faith in people.

The best part? This event is about everyone, not just one single person -- everyone -- from those who donate, to those who show up and get some goodies -- because those who get something, nine times out of 10, will repay the kindness by doing something completely awesome.... and that, after all, is what it's all about.

Cheers all! If you come out, look for my main Fille on Freeport, would be happy to see you :)
