Rofl, are you serious?
What about the EVE battles with thousands of players on either side at any given moment?

@Niann I do believe that it's an FPS record, not a general record.

Congratulations. That's really cool. I never heard of this game, but it seems sort of interesting. I am happy that they managed to get themselves a record.

@Samcha It is a tech demo, remains to be seen if it becomes a proper game or not.

That's what the gaming industry needs:

Large scale battles.

Not only MMOFPS, though. I'm so sick and tired of these 6v6, 8v8 CQB. Basically the main reason I played Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. I felt so much freedom. I'm hoping Planetside 2 will revive me.

@Grumms

I agree entirely.

Everytime I see Arena fans flocking to different MMO's and demanding the implication of their tiddly little 5V5 minigame I die a little inside. I wouldn't mind so much, but unfortunately, they seem to get it into their head that their small, unimpressive skirmish is PVP distilled down to it's "purest" form and everything else is undeserving of attention. And if you dare bring Vehicles into your game... god help you.

Personally I don't even look at an FPS multiplayer if it doesn't feature combined arms and felt the finest battlegrounds in traditional MMORPG's were the huge ones with upwards of forty players like Alterac Valley or Rift's Port Scion.

I love eve, but have you ever tried going into a system with 1000 players in it? Its got lag measurable in minutes. This was fluid movement at 1000 players.

@Azev Agreed. Its one thing to get tons of players logged on, it's something else entirely to keep the game **playable** for those players.

Isn't EVE introducing some mechanic called 'time-dilation' which basically slows down the actual time in game to deal with lag? That may be a solution but it's not one that improves one's gaming experience.

These guys are providing large numbers AND a worthwhile game experience. Kudos to them.

Damn... It's a one match only game. It caught my attention for a second there.

My only thought is how bad their frame rates must have been with 999 people in a browser based game.

Hell, I can stuff 100 Mexicans in a bus, but it doesn't mean it will work well.

@Maseno
It actually did work well. That is the amazing thing.

@Azev

Hope you didn't mean the "stuffing Mexicans in a bus" thing...

...unless we are talking about a REALLY BIG bus! ;p

@Maseno given your analogy it will work well, we mexicans have powers to bend the space-time continum, that's why we laugh at your punny 5 passenger cars and your silly schedules.

grats to them.

now here's hoping Planetside 2 will beat their record ;) Even if it doesn't though I'd much rather play PS2... I would prefer 500 players with tanks aircraft and vehicles in awesome graphics to 1000 very basic renders :P

@eLdritchZ That is a good point. Here's to what PS2 might accomplish in getting battle with these numbers (or more!) and more entertaining combat.
