Good, since I just joined again. SWTOR was quite a dragging endgame.

Seeing as SWTOR only has 2 "Endgame Raids" so far, I don't think you've given it enough of a chance at Endgame as of yet. How many raids did RIFT launch with? In the 12 months that RIFT has been around, they got 3 "Raids" and 3 "Slivers" (all in all 3 raids for one group of players, 3 raids for another group). So 6 raids in 12 months, averaging 1 raid each other month.

SWTOR 1.1 launched the second full-fledged raid less than a month after release, with a major content push promised to come out in March.

That's still slower than RIFT's content update schedule. No one really compares to Trion in that regard. Another thing Trion does that other companies don't, is they try to appeal to multiple crowds within their player base, not just focusing tunnel vision on one demographic, and the game is better for it. More companies should do this.

@Meurik

Are you really comparing the amount of content that Rift released with SW:TOR???

The game hasn't even been out for a year for gods sake and it already released 3 raids, raid slivers, a new zone, a new warfront, new types of rifts, etc, etc.

TOR may be a great game but don't ridicule yourself by thinking that it will keep the same amount of content released per patch as Rift.

The fun part though about Trion's quick patches is that they're filled with content and typically aren't so broken in the first week like I heard TOR's patch 1.1 was.

And they were already working on that patch prior to releasing the game, soo... it'll be interesting to see if Bioware can keep up the update pace... while, you know, making sure no game-ruining bugs enter the game with the patch.

@Meurik Bioware practically did VERY little this month other than release the flashpoints. Rift's patches were full of bug fixes and balance changes, I still can't abandon 8 quests in Tor because they are bugged. Week after week after week all they do is release 1-2 bug fixes and that's it, not to mention screwing up the maintenance again and again.

@Braiks

I don't think you can abandon SWTOR quests if they have light/dark side options.

Anywho, once I get burned out with SWTOR (probably this summer), maybe I'll give this game a whirl. Didn't really like it in beta, but I really want to try it again, given how highly regarded it is. And frankly given how awesome trion seems to be from everything I read, I do want to support them with a little of my hard earned cash.

Some nice changes, I just wonder how their going to work the PVP planar attument. Some people PVE and PVP so how can they change their planar attument from a PVE one to a PVP one without respecing it? I hope you can change attument speks just like normal talent tree speks.

Reading this furthers my belief that Trion is one of the better MMO devs out there and they are really trying hard to make their game better.

@avaloner From what I read, you have both at the same time. PvP PA doesn't affect PvE in any way, it's strictly PvP stuff.

If you do switch, I'm sure it'll be just as easy as switching roles.

"while the time to reach the cap will remain identical, you'll gain new ranks and rewards more frequently, making the overall experience smoother."

So, you get the same end, but with greater reinforcement along the way. This is how you hook people. Behaviorism 101.

Anything that reduces the amount of asskick you have to chew as you try to "catch up" to the "big boys" is a good thing. Gear should always have something to do with the equation, but the problem with top-level PvP in MMOs historically, is that it's often TOO important, making up too much of the quotient in determining victory. Just look at Warhammer's top-level PvP. If your RR wasn't within a few of a person you were against, you could be the best player on earth and they could be one of the worst, and you'd still lose based solely on those numbers.

I think this is a very positive change they are implementing, and I am excited to see what's coming next, as I've yet to see them fumble with an update yet. Aside from the things they've mentioned, the one thing I'd like to see is giving individual souls some more definition. 31-point and 51-point talents need to be something bread and butter, something the class uses all the time that helps it stand out and greatly influence its playstyle by tying in and providing synergy with existing talents, not 2-5 minute cooldowns. Also, I feel that a lot of the "branch" talents are flat-out boring, which is mitigated somewhat by the actives available in the "roots" - but it takes some of the fun away from getting new stuff when you see things like "1% crit chance" or "1% spell power". Flat numerical boosts aren't as fun as activated/reactive effects, or adding secondary effects/properties to existing abilities.

To sum it up, what I'm saying is that I'm happy to see they've already made a lot of improvements and changes to the Soul Trees to make them more fun and give the souls their own identity, much more so than at launch - but I think more could be done. It's my only criticism, and I have no doubt that in time, Trion will probably get to it because thus far, they have established an impeccable record with their activity within the community, and they have shown that they possess the intelligence to discern pointless whining and power-grabs from valuable input.

Fun fact: there are no bears in RIFT.

No idea why not... but it's been bugging me for months now.

That's cuz Trion hasn't introduced the Plane of Bears yet, silly!

Plane of Bears will be released in an upcoming expansion pack, where all the Planes AND the Defiant and Guardians have to battle against invasions of fearsome Bear Brigades. All of this will culminate in the ultimate reveal: the bears are only the mere minions of the cuddly-evil denizens of the...Plane of Squirrels. Phear it!

@Floop the Squirrel That is a little weird...

Wolves, check. Boars (as much a staple to MMOs as teapots are to 3D rendering exercises), check... bunnies, squirrels and other small funny rodents? Check. Messed-up looking large jungle cats? Gotcha... but the ursine population somehow skipped this particular alternate Earth.

Odd. Maybe the Trolls ate them all? We even have hippogryphs and manticore... and yeti...

A great mystery has been stumbled upon here!

I really hope they get this balance right. If I ever go back to playing Rift I'll be more easily prepared to be lured into it if I feel I stand a chance of killing people and generically counting on the battlefield, rather than just being a great big valor pinata to anyone who happened to come along with a rank 8 character.
