I read "bases" and "capture points" in the guild wars insider linked and assumed maybe it would be similar to alliance battle. I liked AB.

@h4ngedm4n ArenaNet said all PvP will be "conquest" type where you have to vie for control of capture points. Different maps will put different spins on the conquest scenario. This is not including WvW.

@h4ngedm4n Sounds like groundbreaking stuff. Not.

Can someone tell me again why everyone is so excited for this game?

I read your linked article and still think it sounds the same as AB. Not that its a bad thing, I like it. It seems pretty much the same pvp mechanic as LoL's Dominion, TF2's control point maps, Battlefield's conquest mode, etc, all of which are fun and have active pvp communities.

@Mtor

Because the game mode is relatively insignificant compared to the actual gameplay involved while playing said game modes. And the gameplay from what we've seen so far is looking to be light-years ahead of anything else.

Beautiful. Can't wait to run around in them absorbing the scenery and ignoring the match.

@Fuzzz I wouldn't be surprised, Anet has a history of taking many passionate community members and integrating them into their staff. Whether or not that is the case here, if they did get Rubi, they made a great choice.

I didn't like the first. I don't see the appeal of the second. Now down me into oblivion.

@Flicktion Joke's on you, I upvoted!

Seriously though, to each his own. Screens look nice, but I'll be far more interested to see how it plays.

@Flicktion I upvoted as well. LOL.

It's just your opinion. Nothing wrong with that. To tell the truth though, other than inheriting the small skill bar you have to pre-load OOC (or in town like the original franchise) this looks to be a vastly different game. It just occurs in the same universe later down the timeline.

For instance, the world (for the most part) is open and persistent. There will be public quests. You can no longer dual-class (booo!) you can join more than one guild, simultaneously. Just to name a few factors.

Also after you buy the box, you can continue to play w/out a subscription. So if one day you become curious about trying out the game, the bar of entry isn't set very high!

I love GW2 (look at my avatar) but why do the pictures look low-res and barely above WoW's graphics?

@Alpoe I'm kind of ball-parking this a little, but I think it's because they want load times on the screenshots to be as fast and accessible on a large variety of media consumption devices as possible. In other words, a web design decision.

Now, were I to have designed the gallery, under each lightbox thumbnail I would have included a link to download each image at a selection of resolutions, just like they did for their wallpaper images.

From what I've seen of the beta footage on youtube, those that are posted at 1080p look very nice indeed, quite a bit more than just a few steps above WoW graphics. :D

P.S. Also as I've skimmed around the SS gallery, I've noted that the image quality is in no way consistent. It could be that these are being captured on different machines, stages of development, settings etc. Pretty normal for a game in its Alpha/Beta stages. The high quality images are very high quality indeed... and the low quality make it look like GW 1. ^_^u

@Cyroselle
I also think that the screens look like this because of a very bad JPG compression. It's awful, if you look at the red flags in the third screen for example. Really?

But also the new screens from GWI with the PvP armor look pretty bad, don't know...I hope it's really just the screens.

Ugh... this game's PvP is not looking so hot. Then again, no MMO's PvP is any good these days :(

@(Unverified) I don't know man, WvWvW sounds pretty fucking hot to me. And so does the more competitive nature of structured pvp.

If the game is 2-faction, I'll be sad. If it is 3-faction, PvP might be pretty good in GW2.
