@Morioch Except in this case one side is clearly unjust and wrong.

@Morioch : I think you meant to say "the Catholic Church does a lot to seek out new customers in third world countries" and "many Mormons go on missions to find impoverished people who might become new customers."

Never let yourself believe - not even for a SECOND - that any religion has any interest in ANYTHING other than finding new customers to increase their market share, power and wealth. They're the original monopoly-seeking businesses, and the priesthood are the original 1%.

Actually, there are many religions with specific tenants against recruitment or accepting money in exchange for spiritual work.

Please don't paint all faiths with the same brush.

Spoken like a typical elitist cynic.

You talk about this group hating on homosexuals while spitting out rhetorical, inaccurate bile about religion.

You demonstrate the worst brand of intolerance: Populist propaganda.

Check yourself.

Homeless, poverty, genocide, war, the list goes on. These people are worried about two guys flirting or kissing? Come on, is this really the most important thing to waste your time on? If Bioware caves to these nuts I'm gonna be pissed.

Not sure what the point of having comments open on this thread is. I guess just to give people space to vent their outrage over what the FRC is saying. If that's useful, then go right ahead. I think it's just wasted time, and when the posts become hateful and threatening, it provides great material for the FRC's next brochure. They are misguided and their opinions on this matter will not sway BioWare one iota, nor prevent anyone who might have otherwise purchased the game from doing so. It will not make one single gay person turn straight, one single straight person turn gay, one single atheist into a believer, or one single christian into a doubter.

Absolutely NOTHING will change because the FRC hates same-sex relationships with companions in SWTOR. Nothing. Just shake your heads at them and move along...there's nothing to see here.

It's times like these that a great quote from this stick figure comic I read comes to mind:

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0500.html

"Hey, come back here you moron!"

"No. Why Should I? I'm not going to change who you are as a person by shouting a few insults at you, no matter how clever they may be. I used to think I could; that if I could deliver the perfect retort, it would open your eyes a little. But if everything you've been through.... hasn't made you want to be a better man, I doubt a one liner from me is going to do the trick now. You are who you are, and every time I stoop to the level of engaging you with another angry tirade I'm a little more like you.... So see you around I guess."

I feel like that's giving up. Taking every chance i can to rise up and protest their hateful ways is the best way we can combat it. Regardless of if they'll change. If anything maybe someone who agrees with them reads these comments and see the overhwhelming opposition to it and thinks twice about their choices. Agreeing to disagree doesn't work here. We have to show everyone, not just them, this is bigoted, hateful, and unnaceptable.

At least... i guess that's how i see at least....

@Muloktoo

If someone has no basis for their stance then all that dissecting their stance and pointing out their fallacies will do is imply that there's any substance to their stance beyond hatred. When it comes to government policy then protesting can work (key word is can), but when it comes to changing a culture of hate the best way to prompt any change is to live by example and ostracize people you meet who take part in that life style.

Well, I suppose we have to decide what "rise up and protest their hateful ways" means. I personally don't believe you accomplish anything by adopting their tactics, except to present yourself as the same kind of person THEY are...just on the other side.

No point to enabling comments? Not necessarily. To each their own though.

Sure, this post specifically relates to an organisation with nothing better to do than express their distaste for Bioware considering homosexual relationships in their game but it goes beyond video games.
For example: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/01/microsoft-legalise-same-sex-marriage/

Bringing a topic to light and talking about it increases awareness. Awareness leads to people actually thinking about it which may in turn lead to acceptance. That logic could apply to any big issue - equal rights for women, African Americans, Native Americans, Aboriginals, Homosexuality etc.

Granted, there will always be pathetic bigots in the world and ignorant children (and adults) on the Internet but like the other big issues mentioned above but talking about issues can change a person's (or a society's) perception.

Oh yes yes. I never meant to imply that insults and low blows are the way to go about things. I'll always live my life treating people the way i'd want to be treated. With love and respect. I completely agree that we should be examples. We should speak out against them but in a non hateful way. I just saw the first post saying it's pointless to say anything here. I think that's a bad way to go about things. We should always take the chance to respectfully voice our opinions on bigotry and hatred. Is what i meant XD

@(Unverified) : All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

It's easier to just shake your heads at them and move along, I know. But vile, disgusting, evil bigots like the "Family" "Research" Council must be challenged every time they stick their grotesque heads up and spew forth more poisonous bile.

God those... are those even puns? I don't know, but they make me cringe. Whatever, Christian groups, keep being on the wrong side of history. We'll have to paint someone as the bad guys and you're just making it too easy.

Try for the people who play them, who might like to see more game companies having the guts to allow them to represent themselves through their characters the way straight players can. If the game is going to have NPC romances, there's no reason to not include same-gender options.
