@Avernus Or all the under-aged looking, hypersexualized characters running around due to the extraordinary freedom of expression granted by the CC in Aion...

Oh, but there's a large number of passages in this 'family' organizations' revered textbook that indicates non-consensual procreation with young girls is perfectly OK, so we can ignore that, just no homosexual unions in pixel-land.

This is a terrible decision, really lore-breaking. I really do not care about same gender relationships in RL, but to force them in the SW lore is blasphemy!!!
I'm now a happy SWTOR player, but this thing upsets me a lot.

@NinjaApacHe But I assume (perhaps wrongly?) that you're fine with Jedi playing huttball.

@gustave154 I'd prefer it for when I roll female characters... which actually, is all the time. :D

What makes me laugh is the amount of people who feel they need some sort of logic or justification, and can't just say 'you know, I play a female character and I want to have same-sex in-game relationships because I get a cheap sexy thrill out of it'.

I like playing female characters as I find the voice-acting to be more pleasant to my ears, and the dialogues usually come across funnier - whereas I find that the male side tends to just make the men come off as dickwads. However, I'll openly admit that if (and it's not every time) I decide to play a female character and romance a female NPC sometimes I get a slight naughty thrill out of it.

You can call it what you want - a guilty pleasure, a perverse side to my nature, sick and wrong, or just damn normal that I have a slightly kinky nature - but frankly your opinion doesn't matter as regards to who and what I am. I'm not going to sit here and live my life by your rules and approval, making myself miserable in the process, just because you have some overly self-righteous, snotty, arrogant lack of self-esteem and need to attempt to control others. As long as I'm not hurting anyone I can do whatever I want, and if people want to sell stuff that gives me cheap thrills, and I feel I want to spend the money I earned on such things - butt out (so to speak).

You know what I've noticed after reading all the comments?

If you take what the gay bashers have said and replace every instance of "gay" with "black" and it all sounds suspiciously like Jim Crow rhetoric from the '50s. Society changes, times change, but bigots always use the same tricks.

@Nautius

How far does your belief in freedom of association (what your views advertise) go? If you had a conservative Muslim family member, would you be okay with constantly keeping your body covered and never speaking to a man as an equal- because that family member "disagreed with your lifestyle?"

What if there's an interracial relationship in your family? Would you ask them to not show affection for one another because you "disagree with their lifestyle?"

Agree completely and if you follow the court cases over Gay rights in the recent years they expressly make that connection.

And personally, being a straight man, not to mention someone that isn't going to role play romance in a game at all, I can't say any of this affects me.

But as a straight white man married to a non-white female, this discussion does remind me that 1 generation ago, we could not have gotten legally married.

Get on the right side of history.

BIOWARE, please don't let them bring religion into a game. Let the players who pay you $15 do whatever they want when it comes to relationships.

Let homosexual CUSTOMERS have their relationship, and the anti-homo/hetero customers have theirs. Bottom line, customers first.

The inability of many parents to feel comfortable enough to discuss homosexuality with kids (or even heterosexuality) is a real problem. It creates a culture of ignorance, fear, and frankly intolerance. Having "the talk" with your kids should not be a few words telling them not to have sex and if they do use a condom. That's about all I got as a teen.

Video games have become one of the most popular forms of entertainment. All across the spectrum we have teen friendly shows that depict positive gay characters and situations including romance, humor and drama. Why not video games. As many of the other posters have said, it's a Teen+ game. Teens are aware of the existence of gays and lesbians and everything in between. Having a parent discuss this with them will only encourage a lack of homophobia and fear.

I hate these worthless "family" groups. In fact, I go out of my way to purchase games that these family groups are against.

That was actually how I learned about Mass Effect. Fox News and some bull-s*** family group made a big deal about "homosexual alien sex" and showed a clip of fem-Shep and Liara (iirc) getting it on. I went out the next day and bought the game... best gaming decision I ever made. Love the ME series.

Actually, now that I think about it... I should thank these family groups. They always keep me informed about the best games.
