I don't have many good things to say about SW:TOR, but if revolting evil scum like the Family Research Council are attacking Bioware over it, that's definitely one positive.

Just because I don't really care about homosexuality myself means I'm disconnected from humanity?

Not really. The fact that you have to use homophobia as a defense is kind of silly too. I don't get what's with the mentality that people are scared of homosexuality if they don't support it.

@Sorithal : "Just because I don't really care about homosexuality myself means I'm disconnected from humanity?" No, that's not at all what I said. What I said was, if you can't even understand why it's a big deal for people to be murdered or hounded to suicide because of their sexual orientation, then I worry about your disconnect from humanity.

And please, educate yourself before you use the word "homophobia" again, you're sounding worryingly like the sort of idiot who says "hurr hurr I'm not scared of gay people, I just hate them." It's a term that has more than four decades currency and is well understood to mean antipathy, contempt, prejudice, and aversion, as well as irrational fear. It doesn't just mean that you're "scared of homosexuality."

I am really curious about how the same-sex relationships are going to be implemented. I know for a lot of people it won't really be a problem, but here's my dilemma.

I usually make my main a male, which I did with my bounty hunter, and I recently got him to level cap so I'm not remaking him. I am currently apparently lonely, and I've developed somewhat of a crush on Torian Cadera's voice acting, and I'd love to set Torian and my bounty hunter up. However, not being able to give Torian the badly animated makeouts with my BH, I encouraged him to pursue Mako because I thought that would be kind.

Have I locked myself out of Torian's heart forever even for when he learns of bisexuality, or is there going to be another pair of companions I'm allowed to bring on board for the gay experience, like a slim twi'lek boy and a tough punk chick or something?

I imagine we don't really know whether it'll just be everyone becomes bisexual, future companion characters are bisexual, or future companion characters may be optional storylines for people seeking that experience, but I'm curious about it.

Because they don't have enough people to screw up in the real world about real issues, they have to make one up in a make believe world?

yes, parents should be monitoring what their kids are playing. but parents should also be monitoring who the kids hang out with at school, and parents should transmit values of love, tolerance, freedom and sharing. and the day that happened, no one will mind that a game reflect real life in the sense that you can become romantically involved with whomever you chose.

this game is about maximizing the player's sense of engagement. for some people, being able to be gay in the game just like in real life hightens this sense. Furthermore, it conveys the message that Bioware is aware and accepting of the LGBT community, which I don't see how could be bad.

If they were going to take away hetero relationships to leave only the gay/lesbian ones, maybe then there would be real reason to complain. Until then, let the hetero players continue with their already existing hetero relations, and let the others have their piece of fun as well.

In a post on the Family Research Council's website, president Tony Perkins announced that "in a galaxy not so far far away, Star Wars gamers have already gone to the dark side."

On their own website? Oh my. "Activists" targeting SWTOR. You make it sound like terrorists. So that warrants this inflammatory column?

Bioware can do what they want with their game and the family research Council is free to post whatever opinion they like on their own website.

This rallying of victimhood by gay "activists" and sympathizers really it seems almost everywhere these days is starting to get a little tiring. How about Massively's contributors talk about gaming features and announcements and leave the politics to both respective sides?

@(Unverified) Because over 200 replies says this is an issue of interest to Massively readers, and Massively has as much right to weigh in as the bigots and conspiracy theorists.

If you find something on Massively (or anywhere else) you'd rather not read... don't read it. Very simple.

If this was 1964...

"This rallying of victimhood by black "activists" and sympathizers really it seems almost everywhere these days is starting to get a little tiring."

You see it's funny how your attempt at tone trolling makes you a bigot as well. My advice is simply this, if you don't like it...don't read it. Since commenting about it seems to get's you in trouble. /shrug

Homophobic morons need to move in to the 21st century. That is all.

@Khazak

Disagreement to a lifestyle does not make one moronic.

But hyperbole does.

@Nautius Homophobia, in the contemporary definition is not a simple 'disagreement' with a lifestyle.

Video game violence makes people violent

Gay romance makes your kids turn gay!

Sexy female video game characters make women insecure!

...And none of these people who are affected by what a video game does had problems to begin with!

Just to make sure I get this right: people are okay with the massive torture and murder stuff going on if you play a Sith, but same sex LOVE is wrong?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore :/

Gay and Lesbian children are growing up along side your own children right now. They don't magically appear at a "suitable age". All you are doing is pretending they don't exist. Lets hope that none of your own children are gay, they deserve a better parent.

Funny they'd go after star wars, I couldn't find anything on their website about Aion, which despite having a great character creator, and my spending many minutes tweaking the sliders, I could only ever make gay dudes.

seriously though. If you're gonna have romance in an MMO (which i think is a waste of resources at all) it might as well be realistic, which would include same sex options.
