Sounds like a good things coming up for the game. From the interview it seems like Turbine may have made some poor managerial decisions bogging themselves down in changes and tweaks that players never saw. Of course they have been promising a more agile Turbine for years now, so we'll see.

Overall I'm really interested. Two caveats, though:

1) We've heard them talk often about how f2p was going to allow them to turn out content faster. We've heard them say before that we were about to see the pace increase. It didn't happen. So now I'm at a point of having to say, "sounds great -- but I'll believe it when I see it."

2) This concerned me: "Players will learn special skills for mounted combat and spend their spare time up-armoring their My Little War-Ponies." Sounds like they're adding yet another skirmish soldier and Legendary Item type of grindfest. If so, color me less than interested in mounted combat.

@aurickle To be fair, a new expansion every year for 2 years running is more content faster than before. I'll reserve judgement on mounted combat till I see it. But I'm really excited overall.

Yes but the expansions were rubbish. Mirkwood was little more than one big zone and Isenguard didn't even launch with it's group instances.

It just feels like Turbine is deliberately trying to find the sweet spot between maximum revenue in the cash shop with minimal actual development on the game rather than actively trying to build as good a game as they can.

Wow, this brings up lots of questions. I think its too soon for a level increase, we just had one. Now that they have announced a level increase it makes all the current armor obsolete. How do we get new armor? Is it still seals/meds/marks? Should I waste my earned sea/s/meds/marks on current set or just wait? They have totally nerfed skirms and rewards but now we have to level our soldiers for world play, not liking that idea either. Im glad they are putting money back into lotro and not Warner Bro$ pockets, thats a plus, but now it seems they are trying to do too much too soon. Im also concerned about mounted combat, now we have to level LIs, Soldiers, and horses, sounds like more store to me. I guess it is too soon to judge but some of what has been stated concerns me.

Lot of things proposed, but they have yet to do the new pvp zone or the 2nd LI revamp that they said were coming with Rise of Isenguard.

I'll believe it if I see it.

To counter the negativity and focus on gear and the store, let me just say: WOOHOO!

I don't care about the store much, but the last year was mind boggling bad. Isengart was a snorefest! Oh and MORE boars and bears and wolves... yawn. I really wish they can turn it around, but RoI was just a horrible expansion.

This is beyond my expectations and definitely gives me a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

Understanding how complex and difficult it is to develop an MMO, I think we players need to be realistic and show some appreciation for such efforts. That is a significant expansion, and I for one really appreciate it.

I just got LOTRO and I love it. I already pay for SWTOR, and I like playing this concurrently for free, rather than paying for WoW.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HOUSING UPDATES.

Agreed. Four years on what they themselves called a first draft system is just a little stupid.

I'm reminded of yesterday's article on the currency of credibility. They've been promising housing updates for so long (and so many other things) that I can't believe any promises anymore.

Which is sad, since I'm a lifetime subscriber with a deep love for the game itself.

I'm a little leery about mounted combat. Especially since we've all done it before in WOW and it wasn't that thrilling. We'll see.

So will we all be able to hold the dying Boromir in our arms and shake our fists at the injustice of it all? lol

Skirmish soldiers running around out in the landscape sounds laggy and buggy, then you consider how dumb they are.... melee soldiers in particular will be running around aggroing everything unless they change something.

Hopefully it turns out well.

@Ehra

Another thought I had is how these things will work with mounted combat.
