YES !!!

I really congratulate Jagex and hope other game companies will take example of how Jagex handle botting and cheating issues.

Stop hiding head in sand ,cause it takes money and effort to care about your customers that play game legally and as intended.

Grats to Jagex !

I agree. I think I'll start up a runescape account just to sub for a few months to show them how much I support their actions on this even though I don't play Runescape.

Let's hope some of the big name companies follow suit and get rid of all the jackasses that ruin MMOs.

@(Unverified) Or someone who thinks cheating at RuneScape is any more pathetic than cheating on any other game.

runescape was one of the easiest places to bot. you could easily make 15m/day per account with the current price of 0.5$/m. most of them used a vps with 10-20 accounts.75-150$ per day wasnt that bad tbh.

i enjoyed rs playing legit im a vet(played it 6-7years) and will always love rs, it was my first mmo.

Although congrats are in order for Jagex, the big winners here (sadly) are the lawyers. I can only imagine what % of that 7-digits they are going to ask for.

Probably somewhere between 25% and 40%, but either way Jagex is going to get an insane amount of beneficial press and consumer goodwill for this move. The costs and fees attributed could easily outweigh what it would take a good PR firm to generate all of that, not to mention the added effects that removing the significant bot presence from the game will have on continued subscribers. It very likely pays for the attorneys and then some. Of course, the lawyers do get a nice check but hey, they earned it. I wish more people would shut down botters.

likely none. Most large companies have lawyers on the payroll, they are salaried and don't get a % of the winnings (course, they also get paid regardless of whether or not there is a case to be fought)

The lawyers representing Jagex didn't take this on a contingency. So you're all wrong.

If the statute under which Jagex sued allows for attorneys's fees, Jagex' attorneys will make a fee application and if it'a determined to be reasonable that will be the fee award. Of course, it's unlikely the botters have the money to pay the award anyway and it's not the sort of thing usually covered by insurance.

Now.. if Jagex can afford to do this.. what keeps Blizzard and other big names from doing the same things? sue the pants off of botters and gold sellers too, for that matter.

Tangentially related: Apparently, the upcoming Pathfinder MMO will have a 0-tolerance for botters:

When asked how they will deal with gold sellers and botters, they replied on their forums with:
"Crush them, see them driven before us, hear the lamentation of their women. "
Cracked me up.

Blizzard don't give a ****. People play their games anyway.

Hype on for example D3 is so big like it would be second coming of Jesus.

Fighting botters require money ,money which Blizzard shareholders and managment would not see.

because unless the botters and farmers are making a mint, they don't have anything worth suing for.

Runescape players: True?

I remember when Jagex first cracked down many players came here to say that they saw no drop in the bot population.
