Blizzard's Steve Parker dropped a bit of a bomb via Twitter this weekend. The Diablo III senior producer is leaving the project and the company for reasons unknown. "I'm no longer working at Blizzard or on D3," Parker wrote. "I've had a great five years there and those guys are going to kill it with Diablo."
While Blizzard is currently listing Diablo III as an early 2012 release, the company continues to make major changes to the hotly anticipated action title.

There had to be a reason, probably didn't like the direction the game was heading.

@J45neoboy seems like he would have then said "I enjoyed the negative five years experience at Blizzard" then right?

No, because he still wants to work in the industry. Bashing your former employer, even if one has valid complaints, is not the way to go about getting a new job with another company in the same field.

I was looking at screens today on DIII's own website.
I really have to say that the colors and mood just seem so bright and whimsical... not really what I, or I imagine, many people were expecting and looking forward to. Hah, for that kind of atmosphere I guess we are going to have to rely on Path of Exile.
Regardless, I'll be getting this as a gift for my wife, she's a huge Diablo franchise fan and has been looking forward to this game for years. She even applied for the beta. :D

Bit late in that case, besides the Producers don't have a say over that, they aren't there to make design or creative decisions.
Most likely scenario is he found a job somewhere else, probably working on an IP he loves or a promotion to Executive Producer. His sudden termination could simply be Blizzard not wanting him to work out his notice but take it as leave instead.
This kind of thing happens all the time in the industry.

Pfft, what a bunch of rationalization based on the evidence at hand and prior experiences...
This obviously means that D3 is going to be a F2P game for kids, and Steve Parker was the only man brave enough to walk away from it... after 5 years, and within a year of launch.

you sure he doesn't mean "diablo is going to kill blizzard"?

Maybe this is just a guy who's been working on the same project for 5 years straight, who now feel like the job is done. If the game is close to being released (I realize that is a bit unlikely considering the major overhauls Blizzard unveiled a couple of days ago) he may be the kind of person who's not interested in flashing lights and/or red carpet ceremonies.

While I am not going to guess why he left; very few people leave their job right before something major drops. Sorry, but if I have been working on a project for five years, I would not just walk away from it unless something life changing happened. No one is going to leave, because they feel like they are "done" and in this case it is not done...
