I wish they gave more Guardian examples.
It's creative, no doubt about that.

@syklonis They mentioned on Reddit that beta was starting within like 3 days. That already happened. The game is in beta now.

@Eamil

Yes that beta was more in house goal oriented beta. Not what I was talking about. They also mentioned that a larger beta in "January" would take place, which I was talking about!

@syklonis

They already did their inhouse testing. Just because they didn't open up the doors for the gaming public doesn't mean they haven't rolled out their larger beta test.

They can quality test as long as they like as far as I am concerned.

Please dont give in to pressure and realese a steaming pile of donkey crap like swtor turned out to be. Too many bugs and too low quality just for a christmas launch window.

This reminds me of the FFXI skillchain system, in a good way. The feeling of grim satisfaction you got when you pulled off a Light skillchain and then popped a Fire Magic Burst on top of that and then the mob just.....dies, was immense.

Oh delightful combo system, what havoc we shall wreak together!

@Nenene This is something I wish more games would introduce. Skill chaining in FFXI is so much fun, even more fun when you timed it perfect with some ancient magic, oh man, good times.

Oh. My. God. I LOVED the renkei system in XI. I still play it from time to time just to get my fix.

Sure, it could be a pain in the ass, and omg, the CHARTS... they used to give me nightmares, lol, but it's sooooo satisfying when you pull one off. And when some little taru taru blm throws a magic burst on top... that's like a cherry on top of a sundae, lol

People curious about how professions that look like they're weighted heavily toward damage handle support should find number 5 very interesting. It seems like between combos, traits, and things like weapon mods, the opportunity to pull off some really, really neat tricks if you're knowledgeable and paying attention is going to make gameplay a blast.

First generation MMOs used a stick to try to get people to group - making it near-impossible to progress solo.

Second generation MMOs used a carrot - making it perfectly possible to solo, but putting the finest loot in group-required content.

Third generation MMOs started looking at overcoming factors that made it difficult or inconvenient to group - by introducing things like public quests, open parties, dungeon-finders.

And fourth generation MMOs? Looks like GW2 is adding a focus on making it just straight-up more FUN to be in a group than to be solo. Great stuff.

It seems to me that Guild Wars 2 will have an even greater divide between average players and great players. The people who put the effort into figuring out and mastering the various combos are going to be freaking amazing and highly sought after in groups.

@aurickle It would be nicer to say "great players and even greater players".

I think that's true. They've said they want the game to be accessible and easy to pick up and play, which has led to concerns that it'll be hand-holdy and won't provide enough of a challenge, but there seems to be quite a bit there for those of us who want to fine-tune our gameplay.

@Darkmoone I'd rather have the GW2 pipe dream than the ugly reality of SWTOR.

Cooperative magic. I want.
