How successful is RIFT? That's hard to say without knowing how much it cost, but it's safe to assume that Trion executives are smiling after the game generated $100 million in revenue in only 10 months.
CEO Lars Buttler told Reuters that the company is still considering an initial public stock offering, and it has also secured an additional $85 million in funding as it readies RIFT for the South Korean and Chinese gaming markets later this year. Trion is also developing an MMO shooter called Defiance and an MMORTS known as End of Nations.

Good for them.
While Rift isn't the type of game that's going to keep me glued to the keyboard for weeks on end, I like checking in every three months or so and taking a look-see at all the new shiny stuff. I just hope Trion doesn't spread themselves too thin with multiple projects.

@Dalano securing 85 million in future investments is an amazing feet for a start up. Over extending yourself is definitely a concern though. Hopefully they are aware of that.

Good for them. Trion is a smart company and so far has been very fair to their customers.
Have fun RIFT players!

Gratz Trion:)
It will be interesting to see how RIFT haters like realbacon or whatever his name is, try to twist this good news around to make it sound bad (or likly they will just point to the recent server merger/trialserver thing as a sign the game is failing). Alot of people are coming back to RIFT from SWTOR which is a good thing, atleast for RIFT.
Also I thought it was well known that RIFT cost about 50 mil to make or was that just someones prediction or something?

@avaloner about 100 million start up funds. 50 million spent. Everyone assumed every last penny went to Rift. Regardless of the fact that they have two other games in production now. Regardless. Trion, a start up company, returned a profit. Anyone who is not a 6 year old knows that start up companies are expected to lose money their first 3-5 years. That's why the tax code is generous to new companies. Trion has beaten the odds in a big way and deserve EVERYTHING positive that's coming their way.
Gratz to them indeed :D

@LA1111. FYI, turnover less development costs does not equal profit. Regardless, this figure may well be misleading but I am really happy that Trion are doing well and have got extra funding as I really liked the game, just personally needed something different. Im definitely going to go back and play one day when I get time but in the meantime Trion are a shining light to all future developers.

Trion is to be commended for releasing such a polished MMO with a fair amount of innovation (rifts, souls) without having to spend 500 bazillion dollars and 150 years of development.

@avaloner Even a small raiding guild like the one I'm in has seen a marked influx of 'new' players that are actually people that are returning from a brief stay over in the SWTOR camp, or who are at the least finding a place to play while B/W gets their bugs ironed out.

F-me, I'd hate to be a dying MMO which can only scrape 100mil in revenues...and 85mil in investment. I dont know how they live with themselves.
/sarcasm off.
Nice one Trion. You deserve it, the only MMO developer out there currently that is trying new things and delivering a decent amount of content for its sub fee. Keep it up, you are setting a whole new standard for other developers to try to keep up with.

Trion is a class act that has treated their players very well with a great game, aggressive new content schedule, lots of updates, free server transfers, features like coin lock--the list goes on. They deserve the success. It's doubtful though whether anything will silence the people who label the game a failure for no apparent reason.

Good for them! I'd like to give the game another try in the future. They've been very smart for the most part, kept their noses clean, and I'm glad to see them doing well.

Nice to see that a game that sticks to the sub model can pull in decent revenue without having WoW-level-absurd sub numbers.
