While there's still no release date set for Diablo III, it seems the release may be further off than some players were guessing, judging by the latest round of sweeping system overhauls. A new post by game director Jay Wilson goes over several major changes being made to the game, starting with the fact that Scrolls of Identify are gone. You have a short casting time to identify and item and that's it, with no need to carry around a separate item.
The latest changes also remove the Mystic artisan, the Cauldron of Jordan, and the Nephalem Cube. The latter two were removed due to the inclusion of a Town Portal button, making trips back and forth far easier, while the Mystic artisan lacked a sufficiently defined role amidst other item modifications. There's also a major stat overhaul, which reduces the core attributes to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Vitality. They're far-reaching changes, and only time will tell how much their impact might slow the game's release as the team tests the altered systems.

Blizzard has plenty of time to spare working on design. They are right now having issues with pushing the RMAH through Europe. Quite a few contries are claiming its against the law in the country to have a real money trading system on same game account battlenet that 12 year old kids are playing on.
We will have to see how far this will go but there is talk of at least 4-5 months before EU will make their final verdict. So again - plenty of time.

Now if they would remove the RMAH it would be a truly wonderful game. Not a complete cash grab for Blizzard.

Yeah, one of the reasons I played D2 for so long was for the modding. Granted, it wasn't a massive community, and it took a while to go from spreadsheet editing to map and graphics editing, but the time spent editing was greatly rewarded once you were done. New skill trees, new items, new effects, new maps, and maps that were just massive, these all greatly added to the fun and longevity of the game.

Am I the only one thinking that they delay it on purpose now until the console version is ready to ship?
I'm not paranoid! Really...

Nopez. From what I can see of the changes they're consolizing as we speak.

I would agree, except for the fact that D3 delaying release affects Blizzard's entire year.
They already said they want to get SC2 out this year and of course there's the MoP expansion for WoW. No way they want to release MoP before either D3 or SC2 cause that would mean releasing them at the time new content is being released for MoP. And they certainly won't release 2 at the same time or else they are splitting their fan base.

Honestly I liked the Cube/Cauldron. The portal takes a while to work, so I'm not a fan of making the trip when I could just sell/salvage on the fly.

But this is an RPG! They like for you to use the assets they've built as much as possible and to also artificially inflate the total time played so they don't have to add as much content. It's cheaper for them and somehow you still feel like you've gotten your money's worth.

@smartstep I believe the term you are looking for is ARPG, or Action Role Playing Game. Maybe someone should go back and play some of the predecessors to this game.

@smartstep Seriously? Out of touch much? Diablo practically created the point and click ARPG genre. Wikipedia is your friend.
