Yes, apparently, the lumbering beasts that terrorize players in both Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV will be added to the stable of mounts alongside chocobos. The preview video itself (embedded just after the break) states that they'll only be available for a limited time before version 2.0; the lore article claims that the very idea seems absurd even in the game world, but there it is. Hopefully players can learn how to obtain the mount soon, with the added caveat that we'll probably have to believe it's a real thing at that point.
Final Fantasy XIV teasing players with a rideable goobbue

Every so often, there are pieces of information put out that are transparently false, stories so insane you know they simply must be fabricated... like the idea that Final Fantasy XIV would promise the introduction of a new mount and that said mount would be one of the toothy monsters known as a goobbue. It's the sort of thing that could be immediately ignored as being a series of enterprising photoshopped pictures if not for the fact that it's being passed along by the official site.

Well it's very cute, and still nowhere near the over-the-top mounts you have in say EQ2 for instance.

EQ2 puts out a mount and I log in just to buy it. They have me wrapped around their little finger.

I'd be a lot more tempted to sub for a month to try and get one if I hadn't given up on the game before getting a character to even level 20. Probably requires high-level gameplay to even try to get one.
Still hoping 2.0 will make the game playable though.

I told myself I'm not even gonna think about playing until I can make a female Roegadyn as my one and only character (since their billing system hates alts so much), but as far as I know they're not planned to be available until 2.0. So that's that then.

SE has already stated that characters made before 2.0 will be flagged for re-customization due to the new graphic system being overhauled.
This will allow you to use the new races/sexes that come with version 2.0

@(Unverified). They said they're not sure about name changes though. Not sure I'd want to play a cat boy with a Taru name and not be able to play through the story with my cat boy character in the cutscenes.

Interesting. I may end up subbing early then, when I'm not feeling like playing anything else in these intervening months.

How is the state of the game these days?

The game is getting better and better. In fact if you're a new player coming into FFXIV you'll be fairly busy from the get go. Currently the game suffers from the lack of content for people at max level. There are a few challenging fights, but nothing epic.
If you're curious you can buy a digital copy from SE for 19.99 after your 30 free days it'll be 9.99 month to month or you can buy 3 months for 8.99 a month or 6 months @ 7.99. In October subscribers will get pre-access to ver 2.0 and 3 free months. In January SE will relaunch FFXIV on PC and PS3.
Honestly I'd wait a little longer at least until next month when 1.21 lands which is supposed to be a large content patch. And there are plans for server TX and merges which will help with the world populations.

They should really just integrate this game into a F2P title. Seriously, everyone I talks to says the game is still trash and not subscription worthy. The population is low and steadily dropping.....
Just give in already SE. F2P all the way.

I saw this earlier today and yeah, it's probably going to get me to sub sooner than I otherwise would have. >_> Goobbues were my favorite monster in FFXI, and when I saw they were going to put in one I could actually keep...well. I'll bite if I get to ride a rocktato.

I....dunno....
I am so tempted....
I would buy many, but since I can only reasonably have ONE character without extra charges.... >.>
(See what you did there SE. I would happily buy one for each Alt, but no...one alt by your rules. So you miss out on my extra monies! ;P )
