Well, it's officially official. En Masse Entertainment is launching its long-awaited TERA MMO on May 1st in North America. A posting on the game's website confirms the date, and it also mentions both standard and collector's edition offerings, the contents of which will be revealed in February.
In the meantime, En Masse is accepting beta applications, and the company also promises "lots more in store" for the month of January.
TERA was originally developed by Bluehole Studio; the title launched in Korea in early 2011. The game is a high fantasy MMORPG focused around action combat and featuring an endgame political system.
[Update: Frogster has also announced that the EU version of TERA will be available on May 3rd.]

I'm actually excited about this. I've barely read up on it but it's about time we got some combat that isn't bland and boring!
can't wait to heal like this.

You know nothing about what has been added into the game since the Korean launch a year ago. The lvl cap is now 58 with lots of end game, and it's still being updated to this day in Korea. The NA/EU will be getting the game will all of that content at launch.
Gotta think about it, it being released in Korea first is great thing for us. Most of the bugs have been squashed and we got some serious content updates for end game. If everything goes well with server stress tests, we should be looking at a very nice launch with a good amount of content to hold us over until even more arrives.

May 1st for for playmate models combating in mini-skirts and highheels!
But seriously, I have to wonder if they have adapted the game enough to suit a Western market. I have my doubts about the game's political system and giving players that much influence on game mechanics but who knows, it might actually work.

OK, I need to address the people saying that this is jsut a hotkey MMO with blocking / dodging. This is much more than that - if you swing your axe and there are, say, 5 opponents that it comes into contact with before you stop swinging - all those 5 guys will take damage - that to me is more than jsut hotkey + block. Mobs have hitboxes, people have hitboxes, all skills rely on positioning and aiming. This too me is as much as you can say about a standard single player RPG. Also, you cannot walk through players / mobs. That to me sounds like a proper new system, not just hotkey + dodge.
With regards to endgame - Endgame consists of Bosses, world bosses, pvp, political control, server vs server battles that tie into the political system, a flaoting city in teh sky that also ties into the political system but also includes various pve content, and certain other stuff that is a little unkown at the moment due to there not being much info available. Certainly some of the things i mentioned are not in the korean / japanese game as of yet, but they are planned for the first quarter, which should hopefully mean that by the time the game launches for us - we will have all those features.
Ok, that was a little defensive, but I felt I had to do it. I wouldn't conisder myself a fanboy, but I am genuinely interested in this game and I wanted people to know some concrete info about it.

Now we get to find out what they've been meaning about their convoluted & turgid term of "Western'ization" all this time....well least in 6 months. And whether it means they've turned the "Asian grind" into "WoW questing on rails". Or it means they've turned the Elin into big hairy men. Or both.

Will definitely buy box/download. Not sure I'll have a long term subscription, but hey, I'm going in with low expectations so I might be pleasantly surprised!

Isn't this the game that failed in its native country? Forgive me if I don't get my hopes up.

Yay! May 1 shall now be "hooker outfit" day!
Hopefully I'll get into the beta to give this a shot before launch, but definitely still interested and slightly more excited ^______^

Yes, finally a release date!
After playing the US Community Play Event I can't stop myself from thinking about TERA. So excited to hear that it has an official release date, good stuff indeed.

@Grumms
The leveling is just like any other Western MMO. I would say the grind in Vanilla WoW was far, far worse. There is no grind in TERA. I found myself killing the BAMs over and over again though, it was that much fun.
Expect to be doing quests like you would anywhere else. You will easily reach max level just by doing quests.
