Well, it's officially official. En Masse Entertainment is launching its long-awaited TERA MMO on May 1st in North America. A posting on the game's website confirms the date, and it also mentions both standard and collector's edition offerings, the contents of which will be revealed in February.
In the meantime, En Masse is accepting beta applications, and the company also promises "lots more in store" for the month of January.
TERA was originally developed by Bluehole Studio; the title launched in Korea in early 2011. The game is a high fantasy MMORPG focused around action combat and featuring an endgame political system.
[Update: Frogster has also announced that the EU version of TERA will be available on May 3rd.]

This include EU or just NA.
If there are only servers in NA can us EU's play on them?

Also, not sure about region-locking. I'll update it when we find out.

Even if it's not region locked... the lag would probably make it close to unplayable. I played on the korean one (from west cost US) and it was fun to try... but I only played for a few weeks so that I could learn that I want to keep playing when the beta comes out. The game is heavily dependant on dodging at the right times to avoid attacks and such (as you probably already know) and any kinda lag over about ~500ms makes it really frustrating to play.

Even going across the entire globe, my latency rarely exceeds 300ms, and at that level it's fairly playable (though not ideal, certainly). Going from, say, Texas to the west coast of the EU gives me a ping of 195ms, which is more than playable. I will note that this is using my heavily congested university internet - my internet at home is far less congested.
Anything above 300ms is a sign of serious issues with either your network or the ISP.

It's going to be a good few months for MMO's. The Secret World in April and now TERA in May. Happiness :)

Yup, and I just upgraded my computer to take advantage of all this new and shiny.
I've played the Korean version of Tera, and while there are some aspects of it that I don't care for, the combat mechanics are exactly what I'm looking for in a next-gen action MMORPG. Oh, and the graphics are drop-dead gorgeous and ran like butter on my system. \o/

Tera is a flop in Korea and I don't see it doing much better in the West. It really has nothing new to offer other than a political system that not many people will be able to participate in fully.
As for Secret World.... if it was any other company than Funcom I would be excited and want to play it.

Agree about Tera.
It flopped in KR. It flopped in JP. My magic 8 ball says... it's gonna flop in NA. If you think otherwise, really, you're just fooling yourself.
That said, I'm probably still gonna buy the game. Maybe play it for a month or two. Depends on when D3 launches.

@vekien Too late? Nobody has made an action game MMO beyond a few free to play experiments, how is this too late? Ah, the internet attention span,... in action.
It's about time someone is creating a game like this. Actually killing things is going to be fun itself, not just sitting there waiting to watch your character do it for you while you tell him what to do.

@Halfcentaur Youll still be ordering your character to do attacks. You can just order him to dodge now.

i guess i should pity you.
people who have no ability to manage their own hype and their own expectations, and who think there's an expiration date on whether a game can be good or not,....... it must be a pretty miserable existence.
but by all means, pass up your rare opportunity to play a different MMO, and go play another "on time" clone........ sucks to be you i guess.

This. Can we stop assuming this is an action game now? I have actually played it back when it was in Korean beta and I am surprised people still think this is an action game.
Im sooo OCD about stuff like this lol.

Ya, I agree Tera is a hot key based MMO with blocking(if you are melee), dodge roll (if you are warrior), blink (if your a mystic) and jump backwards for priest and sorcerers, all of which are SKILLS and have a cold down. So with that respect I agree its not really an action game, but it is an action mmo.
How long did you play for? because I played from the start of open beta till a week before my sub was due and everybody I knew quit.

@Dratyan ohai someone finally got it lols
Game failed in Korea and is failing in Japan and merging down to I think 1-2 servers now.
Too late is the fact it got delayed way to long, and theres much better games coming out. I played korean Beta, was fun, was mega hyped but its too late now, and sooo many people agree.
But of course everyone here is a mind reader lol.
