Although i really couldn't stand the game myself. I am regularry impressed with the speed of content that Trion puts out.

@Zethe then the PR department it's doing it's job right. ;)

they are adding a lot of content, but it becomes less impressive if you compare it content wise instead of by number of patches.

While I did enjoy Rift since it's beta, i must say that this patch is rather lame...

one Chronicle = a downsized raid
one master dungeon = a rehashed expert dungeon, that's a rehashed normal dungeon.
Weddings (cute idea, but there are better RP things to add)
and a gear overhaul that's really only interesting for people playing the system ( in case you are wondering what i mean: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/16/leaderboard-play-the-game-vs-play-the-system/ )

So basically, the patch lacks original content and is nothing but rehashed things. I still have hopes for 1.8 however, hopes that they'll finally release the Planetouched Wilds, the second zone they've been working on for quite some time now.

Except the whole complete re-itemization of items above level 45 that you're forgetting right now, and which is where most of their work went.

One problem with Rift's end-game right now is that doing T1 is pretty much useless. The instances aren't that much easier than T2s and gear is really lower as less plaques. They tried to hotfix that by giving better, yet still lower reward from T1 randoms, but that didn't work out.

To fix that, they're changing the current end-game system and to do that they had to redesign itemization of items. For starters, T1 and T2 dungeons will not exist anymore and will be fused into a single Expert type and this has for effect of reducing one tier of gear. From their community blog, the game will now have the following entry tiers:
Tier 1: Level 50 rifts, basic crafted epics, Level 50 normal dungeons
Tier 2: Expert Dungeon Gear, Tier 1 armor set, expert rifts
Tier 3: mmDungeon gear, Tier 2 armor set, Tier 1 raid rifts
Tier 4: RoS/GSB/Slivers, First raid armor tier
Above tiers are as usual.

Along with this, all T1 dungeons are getting buffed up to be tougher, and will have more plaques. All items that currently exist that comes from T1 dungeons will have their stats scaled up to Tier 2 equivalent. T1 armor set is gonna be buffed to T2 stats and T2 set is gonna get buffed to T2.5 stats. Tier 4 is gonna remain the same, and Tier 4 relics (GSB/RoS) are getting buffed to HK epic level (Relics should be that much better according to Trion).

This will have the following effect:
-More streamlined, and more comprehensive gear tiers
-Increase variety of expert dungeons run (Although they already existed, they weren't used much, so it's basically doubling the pool of frequently used dungeons).
- Wider variety of Expert tier gear
-Shorter gear time to start running T1 raids
-More incentive to run T1 raids (Relics being that much better, mark of ascension being more widely available)

really a marriage mechanic?

@Clemalum07 It's stupid to us, but many RPers apparently were asking for this.

To me it just shows that Trion is trying to give EVERYONE what they want, as opposed to companies that focus purely on one type of gameplay.

@hami83

Pretty much this. RPers love their weddings. :) And while I'm no RPer, nor do I play Rift (though I did try), I respect Trion for breaking away from the single-mindset developers out there. They are taking the time to create content for raiders, pvpers, duoers, soloers, RPers and more. They seem to realize that their player base (ie. their money) comes from all of this, so why not make content for them and keep them all happy. I wish more developers did the same.

Agree, total respect for Trion for doing this where other MMOs have not, despite player requests. A thread in the official forums lambasted them mercilessly for the marriage mechanic, and it was kind of sad.

@Clemalum07

Once again Clemalum07 you and others like you prove my point that many of you who came from other genres of gaming do not get what a multi-player rpg is. So yeah, really, marriage mechanics to be used as a tool to enrich the rpg environment.

@Cyclone Jack Shouldnt they be busy RPing saving Telara? Where did they find time to date and marry? Im sure the future would be upset to know they are getting distracted from, you know, saving the world and all.

Although weird for people who take it seriously, it's still kinda hilarious. I am definitely going to get my character into a gay marriage with another guild member that I keep trolling around with. Haters gonna hate in /4 son.

I didn't like the game but I think it is the real MMO of 2011, they've just been so great on the content but my friends who play say 1.5 and 1.6 ruined PVP.

RIFT felt more of an MMO than SWTOR did anyways.

So far Rift is most rapidly evolving MMO game I've seen (and I've seen them all since UO). Sadly, TRION couldn't make the game interesting enough for casual players outside of guilds with 20-man raids (mobs in chronicles drop fail loot for vendors) + they didn't create world PvP zones on PvE servers + PvP in instances isn't fun at all after a week or two.

Still too little and way too late. It will be interesting to see what 1.8 adds. I must say all this free game time they are throwing people isn't exactly working as intended either.

Too little way too late...? You realize this game isn't even a year old yet, right?

Meanwhile they're on their 7th major content update.

Last I counted WoW's only up to their third major update since Cataclysm's release, which was over a year ago. With the final boss being pretty much Deathwing attempting to Tentacle rape the planet. Fortunately all you need to do in order to save the world is be able to DPS him down fast enough!

@Sorithal

pretty sure he means 'too little too late' for him. Never understand why people can't get that understanding. He didnt say hes speaking for the community.

Youre too defensive about someone expressing their opinion and based on the server situation in Rift, I'd say it's clear quite a number of people felt that way regardless of how long the games been out.
