@Mikx When you said Dawn of War and Company of Heroes you actually meant to say Homeworld. It's cool though, I caught it for you.

Uhhh, Vigil Games is the developer. THQ is only the publisher.
I'm sure another publisher will pick it up?

@Cepaqua They can't. The 40k IP rights were signed to THQ and I'm very sure are voided in the event of the company being sold. Whether that means the entirety of DMO gets scrapped or the game as it is right now goes to Games Workshop, I'm not sure.

Lets be honest it probably wasn't looking that great and would have got canned or been banned anyways. When no major Publisher decides to buy it then it'll be confirmation on how bad it was. Plus the Franchise doesn't pull any weight in the video games industry.

I wanted a 40k MMO soooo bad but if it was basically a theme park that we've all seen before...well it probably wouldn't have make a mark anyway.

@Grumms It was going to be a TPS and have several worlds large enough to rival an Elder Scrolls game. If this rumor pans out to be true, it will be the greatest tragedy to gaming since the death of Gary Gygax.

I had so much respect for THQ for S.T.A.L.K.E.R....no other publisher would've given that game 7 years of development and it stands as a landmark game...

Ultimately though giving your dev's creative freedom only works if you generate hits. Homefront really needed to sell a million boxes.

And let's face it...until someone figures out next gen mmorpg mechanics TOR will be the last big budget old school game we see.

R.I.P. THQ. Respect.

I was trying to figure what was going on. I own a bit of THQ stock, and watched it steadily go down these past few months. Buy, keep, or sell? My stock is valued at 10% of what I purchased it at. :(

@(Unverified) Don't sell. If the company gets sold, you'll be rewarded with stock in the buying company based on how much THQ stock you owned.

Hmm I was about to tip massively on this when I saw this posted on the warhammer subreddit until I looked through the comments. There is a user who has proven himself to be an employee of relic and he kinda debunked this.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/oib5w/thq_dead_trying_to_sell_everything_off_to_other/ if anyone is interested in the thread.

I doubt it's fully cancelled. With 3 years in dev on a major franchise if THQ does sell itself or more likely sell its IPs I am willing to bet either Activision or EA buys up the DMO or buys out THQs 40k license entirely (if possible based on their contract with Games Workshop)

Plus THQsledgehammer (worked on other 40k [projects in addition to Darksiders) doesn't seem to think the rumors are fully tree pointing out that they just did contracts recently.

His quote

“Something this big would have to have been told to us weeks ago and we just signed another contract. I doubt that we would sign more contracts this week if we are selling.”

This raises many questions:

Why is this happening? From what I can remember THQ has had some pretty good successes with their last couple major releases.

Saints Row 3 seemed well received. Space Marine seemed to do at least decently well. The Dawn of War series has done AMAZING. Company of Heroes continues to sell. Darksiders did very well and Darksiders 2 is looking like it will do even better.

All of this leads to believe one of two things:

1. This is totally bogus and someone is just trying to grab some headlines.

or

2. THQ got an offer from Vivendi (the only company out there with the resources to buy up such a large publisher and their studios) that their board couldn't refuse. I would be REALLY surprised by this though.

If 2 DOES turn out to be accurate then we, gamers, NEED to get anti-trust lawyers involved because Vivendi is just too big and controls too much of the market as it stands.

@MorbidCuriousity
THQ has had some decent success with their stable of ip's but to compete with ea/acti/bliz/ubi you really need a platinum hit or two and sadly thq simply hasn't been able to figure that out.

The fact they had Relic working on a team-based shooter shows how desperate they were. You can't build a business on AAA rts franchises these days...doesn't look like wwf was even enough to save 'em. :(

Going to call this BS for now. Unless THQ severely blundered on that udraw tablet....can't really imagine that.

Their last couple of big titles have sold pretty well, so I can't imagine this is based on truth.

@MorbidCuriousity Also, THQ still has jobs listed. You'd think the first thing they would do if they were going to sell the company is pull all of their job listings.

lol, h.r. operates in their own little universe...

I know it's sad Morbid...THQ is by FAR the pub. i respect most, WAR40k is my fav ip and WAR40k was the mmog that had me positively giddy with anticipation...

But it's time to say goodnight to THQ. There is no compassion in business, all that exists is $$$
