I say :" Bull..."

Another justification of selling some cheap thing in item shop for cold, hard cash :/

@smartstep Exactly what is it you're saying "bull" to?

I would say "This is what happens when you don't develop your game with a microtransaction store in mind and don't spend enough time on the implementation of it when it finally gets put in"...but it's SoE. As much as I've loved them in the past, they've fallen VERY farm from the throne they once sat upon.

"But that's also why I love the game so much: One person's idea of strange is another's dream item."

I couldn't agree more. That's also why I loved Star Wars: Galaxies so much, even with the wings and Ewok familiars (that never bothered me personally). Yes, you could create pink cyborg Jedi Wookies. But that kind of diversity helped everyone feel unique. Compare that to Stormwind a few months into an expansion with everyone looking exactly the same (even if Transmogrification probably has helped with that, haven't played since early Cata).

The appearance tab in EQII is great. Appearance weapons =

That was supposed to be "Appearance weapons equals love", but the comment system ate my cute ASCII heart.

EQ2 lore has never made any sense. The only question that matters is "is it fun?" If you want consistency, let alone realism this is not the MMO you are looking for.

And yes, wings are fun.

I'm kind of amused about that peppermint buckler being in the list...considering I'm running around on the villain side of DCUO dual-wielding candy-cane pistols right now. :-) Granted, that was gotten from in-game missions, not cash-store (I was tempted to get the santa hat, though...)

EQ2 is so last season.

No, seriously, I've been an avid supporter of both SOE and the EQ titles since 1998, the EQ games have been the ones I've always fallen back on after trying out others, but increasingly since Brad McQuaid left I have had the impression that they have been taking the game in a direction that (a) they didn't really know where it was heading and (b) wherever it was heading I was increasingly doubtful that I wanted to go there.

This is another such move. Driven by commercial considerations over gaming considerations. It doesn't surprise me in the least, but I'm not sure I want to be a part of it any more.

QFE: "Burynai seekers don't give a poop!"

First off, a very funny read.

As to the situation concerning your class hat, that would have been a deal breaker for me. I like the way it worked in LOTRO (albeit I have not played in a few years so it may have changed) in that a player must still meet the requirements (level, class, armor proficiency) of the item in order to equip the item in an outfit slot.

@BIGGIN (insert mandatory complaint about no edit button here)

To me, opening all gear for everyone to (cosmetically) wear takes away from one's uniqueness which seems complete opposite in spirit to why most of the mentioned items are offered.

@BIGGIN Good thing they aren't opening all gear to everyone.

I agree with the article 100% I enjoyed EQ2 up to TSO, it just went down and down since. They're milking a dead cow at this point, anything no matter how ridiculous to grab a buck, it's sad and pathetic. Hope they do a lot better with EQNext (but increasingly not holding out hope).

@Maseno
Yup. Pretty much this. Although what I think happens is that many people view new additions differently from existing content. Kind of a double standard. Another example is some of the negative WoW reaction to talking pandas, which are somehow less acceptable than talking cows (tauren).

Also I think there are some hardliners who won't accept anything that is outside the scope of the Tolkien-esque fantasy.

I'm surprised how much I don't mind the marketplace to be honest. They have walked the line very close but have yet to add anything to it that would tread on 'performance' items. You could easily be the best performing player in the game without ever looking at the marketplace, you just wouldn't have a lot of useless 'toys.' the only people they are selling items to are ones who like cosmetic items and goofy play things.

It's starting to look like that freak show, AION.

And I agree. LOTRO handled the appearance tab much better. Armor should be restricted to class.

Wow, it's really odd that casters can put plate items in their appearance slot o_O

I stopped playing EQ2 before the advent of the appearance slot, so that's news to me. They should've made it a little bit more like Aion's system where you can only change the appearance of cloth armor with other cloth armor, leather with other leather, and so on, imo!
