I don't mean this in an offensive way, but that states the extreme obvious and what every company constantly works toward. Strong, faster, lighter, smaller. It has been the trend for a good 20 years now and isn't about to stop.

Companies even just revieled the new super thin notebook computers at the expo. Along with super thing TVs.

@SnarlingWolf No offense taken, but understand that all it takes is a view or three of a typical comments section on one of my writings to see that there are many people who do not believe that.

But I have to say that it can be done wrong. VERY wrong. Like the new low-end Kindle having page buttons so small they're not usable anymore. And I don't have bulky hands... There's a limit to that trend in usability, but not necessarily on other CS fields, like processor footprint or storage devices.

Don't forget designing for everyday life. Some engineers focus on the tech but forget about day-to-day uses. It used to be an art-form and I don't see many designing things nowadays for intuitive use, except Apple.

I honestly do not understand the love for the "cloud". The last thing I want is my data out of my control. Not to mention it's ironic that the "cloud" is gaining momentum as ISP and cell phone companies are implementing data caps.

Not to mention so many mobile games have it where you need to buy extra goodies to advance, or at least buy the goodies to proceed normally. I don't see that as a reason to celebrate. I miss when you could be assured when you bought a game, you could install it and play it. You didn't have to worry about whether some server somewhere was up and could deliver your data, or that the rain storm had knocked out the cable/DSL lines. Not to mention you didn't have to get 4 or 5 DLC's where you spent $5-$10 dollars per DLC to flesh out a $50-$60 game that was only half of what it should be because they were going to release said DLC's.

The "cloud" may not be some fluffy white cute cloud, but rather a wall cloud with an F5 tornado hidden inside.

@(Unverified) I agree, I think people are giving up control over their data too easily with the justification that it is convenient but they do not stop to think about what it could mean.

I've never understood the love for portable gaming either, sure when you are sitting on the bus why not but now people are touting pads and handhelds as something to be used at home, sorry I prefer to play on a real keyboard with a real mouse/joystick/gamepad and on a screen that is at least 17". I'm not that desperate, I can wait until I get home to play.

I have no problem with mobile gaming. I have Flick golf and a few others on my Droid Bionic.

What I hate is the seeming cesspool most mobile games are. I would much rather pay $5-$10 for a complete game with no cash shop, then to download a free game where to finish it you have to spend $30 to buy game currency to buy what you need inside it.

Another problem, way to many of these mobile games that have these little hidden cash shop items are games geared toward children.

Fiona is pretty cool but its strength is its fundamental drawback. Those controller arms will without doubt work brilliantly for gaming, but they're going to be awkward for just generally carrying the tablet around, reading books, etc. Basically, they dictate that you have to hold the tablet one specific way, no matter how much you might wish you could do otherwise at the moment.

I think the device would make a whole lot more sense if they designed the controllers to be removable. That way you could have them handy when you want to game but they're not in the way when you want to use the tablet for something else.

Splashtop Streamer is excellent for streaming games running and rendering on a PC or Mac to an iPad or iPhone. Totally optimized for it - I use it all the time when I'm just logging in to do crafting, etc.

The difference here is that they are hosting a full Win OS for you, and so you can access the same one anywhere. What I am really curious about is if the browser that comes with the paid version will allow us to play browser-based games. They might have certain features switched off for security.

Oops, guess I missed that. Maybe I even found out through you!

To your point of curiosity though - using Splashtop and a router that supports DYNDNS (a good many of them now days, even low end) you can make your home PC do the same thing without restriction or monthly payments.
Additionally, many hosting companies will let you rent a server for which you have full control over relatively cheaply as well. I guess the decision factor vs your own hosted server would be how cheaply they can offer it and vs DYNDNS/ your home PC would be data control and ownership.

I may be completely missing your point though too :)

I don't see myself switching to mobile gaming until the display size problem is solved. Whether that's contacts, glasses or some sort of projector - the displays are too small for the types of games I like.

Kinda neat, no? Projection TV with a Mobile device. Although I like the homebrewed option of Mobile streaming on your TV, too.
