Paragon and NCsoft have officially announced the latest update for the long-running City of Heroes superhero MMORPG. Issue 22: Death Incarnate is the title's first major content drop since the free-to-play conversion, and new endgame trials, costumes, powers, and VIP items are on the way.
Chief among the updates are tweaks to the Dark Astoria zone (it becomes a Co-op Incarnate Zone tailored for level 50-plus heroes). Also noteworthy is the new darkness power set for Controllers and Dominators, which should cause a cackle of glee for those of you who relish summoning spectral minions and commanding shadows.
There's also a new trial called Dilemma Diabolique in which heroes and villains must join forces to take down the evil sorceress Diabolique before she makes good on her nefarious plan to rule the world. And that's just the tip of the new content iceberg. More info on Issue 22 is available at the CoH website.

Decent buffs for Grav and Stalkers. WTH happened to DA!? I wonder how this affects Adamastor. Dark Control/Assault could be nice, I may have to check those out.

So COH has this feature which lets you max how much money you spend a month. I think that is the best feature a F2P MMO has. More companies should do that.

You should notice that everything added to the Paragon Market this issue is marked "Free for VIPs". If you are concerned about spending too much on the market, just subscribe to the game and get access to the whole thing without expending extra money outside the subscription. You also get $5 worth of store cash, for "free", with each month of subscription, so even if you desire any of the optional store bought items that are not part of the VIP package, you should be able to still bet it for free.

They've had that feature for a few years; at least two, before their f2p conversion. Actually, it is more an NCSoft-Account-wide thing. It applies to Guild Wars, Lineage, and CoH.
There are some troubles, especially if you want to buy a sub and a few item packs, but it is a nice tool to put you in check.

Whoa nice!, they are revamping DA as well as new powersets and new content?.
See I guess when you focus a single dev-team on a product, on one singular title instead of fluffing around re-shuffling devs to-and-fro different projects as demands shift - you can actually make progress on a little thing called content, even on a f2p title. Take note Cryptic.

Just ran around the new DA a bit on beta, and it certainly strikes the right tone for a horror themed zone. Especially the revamp of the cemetary, the new Incarnate level mobs for various groups, and the sounds. In fact some of it would probably look more at home in a cosmic horror setting, which I really applaud.
