Twinity users are experiencing a bit of lawyerly inconvenience according to virtual world blogger Tateru Nino. Portions of the Metaversum GmbH sim have been taken offline for unspecified reasons, and Nino speculates that "someone's team of undead zombie lawyers woke up and started asserting intellectual property rights and licensing restrictions."
The Twinity project makes use of both Google Maps and 3-D data to recreate cities like Singapore, London, Miami, and New York, but patrons will need to put their online party plans on hold for the time being.
Twinity's dev team posted a cryptic explanation, along with its intent to "try to reactivate the cities in the future."

I thought Tateru Nino was a Massively blogger.
When and why did that change? O.o

I've been following this site almost daily for three years, and I've never heard of this Tattoo character. Are you sure you're thinking of Massively?

Tateru used to write the Virtual Whirl column about Second Life, but I haven't seen that for a long time. I guess SL lost its regular coverage rights here.

There is a that I only vaguely recollect. I am sure the staff knows more than what little I know. I really didn't pay attention.
The Second Life column just sorta drifted away, but the game is still mentioned here and there, even if irregularly, on Massively.

I know these virtual chat rooms are out there, but I don't keep up with them. Still, I am curious to keep abreast of them, even if I never enter one.
I had heard about the "google map" thingie, but wasn't sure of the game. First time I heard this name.

This is the first time I've heard of this game, and based on that screenshot, it's not hard to see why. If I'm going to play a game where I'm surrounded by screaming, black-eyed abominations with freakishly disproportionate limbs, in a bizarre dimension where perspective is all wrong, it had better be a horror game.
