The question that immediately leaps to my mind is what happens to all those $19.99s if the MMO never sees the light of day. I couldn't see anything on the site about that, although I didn't do a thorough search.

But having said that, for the sake of 20 bucks, I'll probably take a punt.

This looks more like what I wanted Black Prophecy to be. Hopefully this game will have enough depth to keep me hooked for more than a few months.

And guys, this isnt pay 20 dollars for just the MMO. You're paying to fund the alpha of the whole project, which included the single player game and the MMO to follow it.

@(Unverified) Scratch that. Here's the quote from their site that says it better.

"Miner Wars franchise branches into two products: Miner Wars 2081 (single-player, co-op, multi-player) and Miner Wars MMO (massive multi-player online game)."

@(Unverified) And it should also be noted that the standalone game and MMO are sold separately.

I saw the title and was expecting some kind of hardcore-PvP Minecraft MMO spinoff.

@jealouspirate

I saw the title and thought hey, there can't be much of a market for schoolyard brawling games with typos.

But I was wrong on several counts.

That looks awesome. I'm half tempted to pull the trigger on the single player. Anyone know what does and doesn't work so far in pre-alpha?
The one thing that gives me pause about the MMO is that they're already mentioning Miner Wars MMO 2 and Miner Wars MMO 1 only being online for a year if MMO 2 is released.

@Deliverator

I just gave the demo a go. Gave up after half an hour of crashes. And I don't mean my ship into meteorites.

Ba doom tish!

their current project miner wars is still in EARLY Alpha stages and needs a lot of work before i would deem it retail worthy. This (to me) screams "we're out of funds, lets get some !"

Why don't they stick to more realistic art style. All these games look like 1980's remakes.

I like how the art style of EVE online is more, mature, and very futuristic.

Pre-order to help fund development? This seems very suspiciously familiar...

It looks and sounds potentially good, but this style of funding is, as so many have said "highly suspicious" at best. Also i just plain don't believe they'll be able to raise the necessary funds this way.

I definitely support the alpha funding model.

Eh. I'll put it on my radar, but without a free trial I'm not interested in buying.

As far as the space combat goes, Vendetta Online looks better to me.

The world-building stuff is interesting, though. I'll keep my eye on it.

I looks like an intriguing proposition. I would be willing to risk twenty dollars for two years of game play. That is a good gamble for me any how.
