The upcoming sandbox game ArcheAge has turned quite a few heads with its design principles, graphics, and game mechanics. But mechanics alone don't make a game fun to play -- you need to have some content to make use of them, after all. Content like, say, a large number of bosses wandering the world for players to take up arms against. The folks over at Steparu have gone out and shown off precisely those bosses with a new series of videos, showing the latest beta build in action by demonstrating pitched fights against these enemies.
As the preview indicates, defeating bosses rewards you with enchantments, equipment, and reputation, with the last being quite useful to gain access to new prizes through the game. The first of several videos is embedded past the cut, but if you want to see the full spectrum of enemies you can fight like a boss, you'll need to check out the full array of videos yourself and possibly join the legions of hopeful fans wondering when the game will get a stateside release.
I didn't pay too much attention to Archeage, until I started watching all the beta videos. I will now never rest until i get to play this masterpiece, NO SLEEP.
But fo reals, I really like the direction this game is going in. Boss fights don't look overly special but I don't give a sh*t, grab a boat and lets go sailing baby!
Haha the only EQ UI mod I used back then was an Ivy one lol.
But I think your trying to be an arse about my posting and yes I know EQ was out way before WoW, I played EQ from 1999 to 2002.
But also I was not saying that ArchAge was a WoW clone, just that the Party and Raid frames in that video looks very familiar to a WoW mod I used one time.
Game seems it runs like butter. I honestly hope this game will come out with United States. I dont know why 'sand box' games all the sudden are hating in the main industry? Obviously because of games like World of Warcraft and EQ2, etc. But, there are successful games that are sand boxes and they did great... Why hasn't there been like a Elder Scrolls MMO yet, etc. I know there is a Fall out MMO that is like on a endless delay but still.. why no sand box games! :(.
Simple. Look at the whole entertainment industy in the last years. There is a massive fear of anything innovative. This is especially visible in the gaming industry where the biggest companies (actiblizz, EA, Ubi, Nintendo and so on) focus almost exclusively on sequels and not on new franchises.
The reasoning behind this is that an existing IP can sell more copies, due to an existing fanbase than a brand new one and also has greatly reduced production costs. Just look at Call of Duty or all the EA sports sims.
In the MMO market, this fear of innovation translates to endless themepark MMOs because the most successful subscription MMO is a themepark. If a sandbox would have had WoW's success, we'd only see sandboxes.
What I like most in the video, is the huge open area! No fog to hide the distant land, no huge trees, nothing. An open, gorgeous area. It gives you a taste of the scale of the environments, which is a very good thing for an mmo title.
Add to this, the sailing for hidden islands and adventures in the unknown and player's built houses wherever you want. I am totally hyped!
It is about time we moved on to total sandbox mmos. Can't wait!
Nice ,though I saw MUCH better ArcheAge world bosses fights videos.
With more interesting bosses.
+ This boss had lvl 30 and steparu had lvl 38 with some people from group having even 40 +.
I think I read somewhere that in beta there is content up to lvl 30 atm, (lvl cap will be 50 I think).
Anyway cannot wait :)
@geololj
Agree. One of best thing is that open world is totally not instanced in AA, like you can go from one continent to other without single loading screen :o
