I guess this is the part where the founders cash in, and the MBAs descend like vultures to rip the company apart?

@Joaquin Crowe Yep, but that's one hell of a cash in!

Well, given how the economy is going down the drain, that may have been a smart move.

Of course it could come to bite him in the rear later.

Dang, I knew "Insight Venture Brothers" was too good to be true; now my comment is completely irrelevant instead of just tangentially so =(.

It is odd that Massively never spun the take over of Cryptic Studios by Perfect World Entertainment as American company being taken over by a Chinese firm. I'm sure that making colorful blurbs such as "Trading up the Stars and Stripes for the Yellow Stars" would go over well. Just saying.

@Utakata - maybe because Cryptic was owned by a French company (Atari - i.e. Infogrames), and only a division of the company was being sold, although Atari also sold off their European division to a Japanese company, Namco Bandai.

So this still excuses the flag waving jingoism of this article Mr. Knowitall? The fact that Crytic Studios, the elephant in the room which you failed to notice, was an American company. Perhaps I should of said used Fleur-de-lis instead of Yellow Stars.

+1 for nice try though.

@Utakata - heh, actually I just mentioned Cryptic being owned by a French company to poke a bit of fun at your overly strong response to this pretty much fluff filler piece. I mildly agree with your comment, just doubt Massively had any motive other than a catchy title and filling up the site with as many articles as possible, no matter how minor the "news" :)

@Yarr

I don't think it was overly strong since I was really bothered by it. And i was bothered by it because using flags can raise nationlistic flame wars even if it's used in the most benign ways in fluff peices. And not to mention, it seemed smug...whether the Massively was intending it or not.

However, I do feel I over reacted with your reply. And I shouldn't of. The "Mr. Knowitall" was a personal attack and I retract that. My extreme apologies for saying that. I still stand by what I said in general, I should of certainly worded it better. It did not sit well with me. Sorry. :(

@Utakata - no problem. :)

Fair enough on your original comment. I'm used to seeing Mr. Olivetti post these kind of articles on his own blog site (before I stopped visiting it) and others like it, to stir up page hits (I would guess), so I just automatically filtered out the nationalistic bit.

Sounds like that co-founder is going to have a hard life of trying to make ends meet... oh wait that was in millions. Must be nice.

100% Agreed. It read so naturally to me I had to click on the link. I just assumed there was a venture capitalist group with some serious nerd cred out there...

Unless it transfers it's listing to a US exchange it remains a UK company, under your logic, British Petroleum would be a US company and responsible for poisoning your own gulf coast.

So how is the hat market in Runescape? Haven't been on that game for a few years now. Used to be fun, then life moved on.

Jagex has always been a company quite under the radar and just kept quietly making money from a well established model that they probably helped to introduce.
