According to MMO Culture, Black Gold will pit two rival factions against one another in a struggle for control of a world divided between nature lovers and technologists. We don't know a whole lot of gameplay details yet, but we'll keep our eye on this one. Don't forget to check out the Russian server alpha footage after the cut.

A good steampunk MMO is sort of a holy grail for some of us Massively folk, so we're excited to bring you the news of another one in the works. Black Gold Online is the title in question, and it's currently being developed by Snail Games. If that name doesn't ring a bell, consider that the firm is behind the upcoming Age of Wulin Wushu free-to-play martial arts MMO.

Ooh... color me intrigued! Some of the footage looks very "generic fantasy", but the promise of steampunk goodness will be enough to lure me in to at least try it whenever its released.

Come on guys. Why can't games have more than TWO factions :(

Well, don't get discouraged yet. I have seen other reports on the game that listed it as three-faction (and there isn't much official info out there yet to confirm). So, it's possible that the two-faction thing is an error.

Wow. One single-sentence description, and the complaints have already begun.

Let's hope it gets 3-factions, but judging from this clip and the usual tropes, there are no clues to a third faction. Just like Atlus' own Steampunk MMO (that got cancelled), you got "Nature vs. Technology" thing going.
So they either need to make the third side a balance of the two (one that accepts both) or something other; a third power like Undead or Cosmic Magic that chafes and doesn't like both sides. Probably best with non-humans for player races, too.

Looks pretty interesting, I'm looking forward to hear more about the PvP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this have the exact same exposition as ARGO online?
It certainly looks the better of it, at least in my opinion. I'm a sucker for steampunk, so I guess I'll keep up with the game.

Nature vs Technology is not a new thing.
Not by a long shot.

I just don't trust $nail Games. They've burned me in the past, and I was sorely disappointed with how they run things. Censoring the unhappy players in the forums, ignoring balance issues, not fixing obvious bugs, and the greed for wringing every last penny out of players is just too much.

Other than the concept art...how is this a steampunk game? It's like Argo Online...that wasn't steampunk at all. I'm still waiting for a REAL steampunk game to come out. Tossing in a few cogs and gears and a guy dressed in Victorian England style every now and again doesn't make your game steampunk.

Pass. I'm tired of seeing firearms in games be neutered simply to allow for a military conflict between two populations with vastly different tech levels.

The mass PvP looks intriguing if they actually have player controlled siege machines/creatures. Somewhat entertaining art style.
Need more details on the actual game mechanics of course, but for a first glimpse it's interesting.

"Steampunk MMO"
At first, I was all: :D
"If that name doesn't ring a bell, consider that the firm is behind the upcoming.... free-to-play martial arts MMO."
Then I was all :|
Another crappy generic Asian grinder MMO, and, to boot, it looks like a couple of the mobs in the game were lifted straight from the Iron Kingdoms setting.
On that note, someone get to work on an Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine MMO, stat!

@(Unverified) There is a Warmachine video game in the works, but it's not going to be an MMO as far as I know.

Someone couldnt finish the other three team concept and now drags a stored shelf item of the dusty alcove and instead of a purple rabbit eared girl we get a red haired halter top girl?

Art-style looks a bit too "RIFT".
Hope they tweak it up some or make it stand out so that one can identify the game at-a-glance. It's still Alpha, but release seems to be coming soon.
