Lame, but not surprised. Bethesda will most likely do nothing with the rights to a Fallout MMO. The day Bethesda makes a game that even has basic multiplayer will be the day that hell is turned upside down, honestly.

You really think they would go through all this if they had no intention of making it? I never played Fallout so have no opinion about it but a post-apocalyptic world MMO does sound sweet (notwithstanding Fallen Earth which I could never really get into!)

@Snichy

1. Bethesda has more than once implied to not want to make Elder scrolls nor fallout mmos.
2) yes they would do that even if they had no intention of doing it. We are talking about corporate bull that sued Mojang over the word SCROLLS.

@Kitanishi Don't talk out of your ass. Bethesda (actually it's bethesda lawyers; the successful developers behind Elder scrolls have little to do with it) sued Mojang because they tried to copyright the world Scrolls, which of course comes into infringement with the name "The Elder Scrolls". Secondly, Bethesda rocks. We are all happy that they got the rights and finally Zenimax Online might actually develop a Fallout MMO since they were created to develop an MMO.

Too bad. The guys at masthead were working a bit on the project and as i heard it was going pretty well. Do not compare Earthrise's "success" with the profesional qualities of its developers. Its all about funding as you already know.

Nobody here should be crying about this.

Interplay is a shell now, None of the talent that made 1 and 2 good is there any more, the chances that the game would have been good, AND of interplay ever listening to players and providing good support were tiny at best.

Bethesda won't sit on the license, They'll put Zenimax on it or let someone else make it. Point being, it'll get done.

Whether you like it or not, Bethesda's fallout games have been pretty great, even with the bugs, You have to go in wanting to 'not' like them to draw that conclusion.

still can't believe how many people come out in defense of interplay. Interplay is nothing. even if they were allowed to make a fallout MMO it would be 50 years before a playable version is produced. nevermind the fact that all of the people that made fallout what it was at interplay are not longer at interplay.

you morons have absolutely no reason to be loyal to that two guy's in a garage squatting on IP rights outfit that is Interplay now.

What you (and Azules) said. The people currently squatting on this classic name have nothing whatsoever to do with its past glories, and no chance of doing anything productive with it in the future.

@StClair

Kinda like Atari. Someone bought the name trying to capitalize on the company's rep and goodwill back in the day.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for saying this, but I'm really glad Interplay lost on this one. Anymore, I really only wan't to play MMO's where there is a high level of polish, and Bethesda has the talent and capitol to do it. That is just not the case with Interplay. I've played so many MMO's in the past several years, and the vast majority of them have been "meh." Then I played SWTOR, and realized that, while money and talent don't guarentee a great game, it certainly helps a lot. I know SWTOR is hated by many on this site because it copied and pasted it's game mechanic, it's hard to deny its polish (though I'm sure many of you will try).

I look forward to a Fallout MMO from Bethesda. It may be a long time coming, but the good thing about that is, it will no longer be acceptable to play it safe and use the common, tired MMO design of today's games. Here's to holding onto hope for innovation.

If Bethesda has the rights to the MMO, then I expect to see one announced sometime. Otherwise, they should give it back to Interplay.
