Wow, anti-aliasing! Shame on Trion for their pitty updates!

First major update for SWTOR: new flashpoint and 4 new raid bosses.
First major update for Rift: River of Souls event (remember that one?)

To be clear, I still think Trion has set the bar for updates. But I couldn't resist a retort to your implied knock on Bioware:P

@(Unverified) If they follow standard DLC procedure, there's maybe 2 more content updates they withheld from release intentionally. They're golden 'til April.

It does kind of sound (I haven't played the game so I can't say "seem") like TOR might've been a bit rushed out so that they could get it out at the launch date (which they didn't reveal until... late September?). At least from hearing people complain about how buggy or such it was. Or there were last minute issues that they couldn't address right away so they took care of it in this patch.

@(Unverified)

In Trion's defense, RIFT's 1.1 patch notes were ridiculously large in comparison to TOR's 1.1 patch notes, and most of that stuff wasn't bug fixes. (http://forums.riftgame.com/official-rift-news/patch-notes/145022-rift-1-1-3-30-11-8-00am-pdt-4-00pm-bst.html) Though to be fair, TOR has only been out for... around two to three weeks compared to RIFT which had been out for close to a month at that point. And Trion mostly did a lot of tweaking outside of the River of Souls stuff + adding in in-game video recording.

I'm sorry but they're anything but Golden.

If by April they haven't released Knights/Warrior buffs, Addon & macro support along with a real Dungeon Finder they will become another one of those ghot town MMOs with servers peaking at medium population on evenings.

Not to mention the coloring system is still MIA, bioware has a lot of work that needs to be handled fast on their hands, can't afford to just sit on their ass til April, by then, it'll be too late.

There are a few in there I'm really happy to see.

"A Datacron on Coruscant is no longer blocked by unintentional collision." I bet that's the one that large-frame characters couldn't reach. My Bounty Hunter ran afoul of it just yesterday.

I'm glad that they're finally adding anti-aliasing. Now if they'd only increase shadow map resolution!

Your BH on Coruscant? How? :P

I play a Body Type 3 main Trooper and I never ran into this bug, got all of Coruscant's datacrons so I don't know what that patch note is about.

It's funny. This "Body Size" thing really does not exist, if we are speaking standard MMO coding. A large size body's pair of legs does not have a longer stride than a smaller-framed body. This is true in WoW and other games.

But I keep hearing about that excuse and I even hear testimonials of, "I couldn't fit my Body 4 through such-n-such a doorway". I mean, I don't know how to respond to that because I'd like to see it before claiming people just aren't doing it right. Admittedly, I am giving the "benefit of doubt" to these players.

My Mains have body 3's and I've had no problems anywhere on either side. I've collected all the Corsucant Datacrons, I've gone in places with impunity. I've had gone pretty far in the game, but mostly on Republic side.

Sure, some people use small body's to prevent manual targetting in PvP places; this was a common tactic in STO matches, but all one needed to do was Tab and you targetted them.

My bad. I got Coruscant confused with Alderaan. Never had any problems with a datacron on Coruscant. But there IS one on Alderaan that can't be reached by body 3 and maybe body 4. It's in a palace and you have to fit through a door that's akimbo. The problem is not one of stride but height. Body 3 is too tall to fit through the space and with no way to crouch you're kind of out of luck.

@aurickle I think it's the one in Black Sun territory (if I'm remembering my datacrons right). My character's body frame kept running into a block there up an edge and even angled jumping to try to avoid that slant seemed to meet a wall, and it was frustrating the heck out of me because I couldn't get past it. People kept coming and 'showing' me how it was done and I would -literally- watch as they just walked up the side. So my one male friend was having a bit of trouble believing my theory that my body frame had something to do with it... I let him get on my account (I have an authenticator and only I know ALL the answers to my security questions, so wasn't worried. I've also known him for 12 years). Anyway. he immediately IMed me with ".What the heck? I had no problem at all with this....there's like a wall here when I try on yours." ".. Yes. That's what I've been saying. For the last half hour." He finally, 15 minutes later, angled JUST right and made the jump for me... a single jump out of the entire path... and conceded I hadn't been making it up at all. He had no idea how he managed it the time he did it either. I love Datacron hunting but that one was just insane. ><

I have definitely had a tauren who couldn't get through doorways other races could in WoW.

Have you ever played a Tauren in WoW? They look like they're running in slow motion because they do have longer strides but they can't be given faster run speeds to match that. Likewise, larger races in WoW do have bigger collision boxes - the alternate portal into Molten Core used to be a window you had to jump through, until enough Tauren complained about not being able to fit through it that they added the clickable core fragment.

@Space Cobra Body type differences do exist in code (hence the patch), however I never heard of an issue on Coruscant, the only issue I have heard and seen has been the infamous Alderaan door that only allows body type 1 through 2 to slip between. There are a few workarounds that require the use of another player or in one recorded case a companion (I personally would recommend a player as it's less of a pain.) :-p

I'm wondering through if the patch notes is a typo because as said above the largest known issue is Alderaan not Corusant.

Here is an example of the Body type three issue and one of the workaround using force pull: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrhXqoPnqT8

Another using force leap but he managed to do it with his companion (seems like a pain in the arse, would be easier with another player if you can find out to help out.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjAEogbPIQg

@aurickle IMO it's soooo weird not being able to crouch in a game that has a 'cover' mechanic... but I know, the cover crouch is entirely automated, and you can't do it out of a combat situation. Too bad really, being able to fully maneuver your character has always been a major selling point for me, but seldom found. Fallen Earth does it, right down to a lying prone sniper position, but lacks the IP, polish and capital oomph that BW/EA have.

ACtually in wow body size did matter. there are places gnomes can run that others cannot. Specifically a fireplace in some human leveling up area, i leveled my dwarf up with a friend and he was able to just run in and out of it at will while i banged my head on it.

I think they discovered some graphical glitches with AA enabled in beta. They elected to turn it off rather than delay the launch over that. You could in fact manually enable AA in one of the .ini files if you so desired. Plenty of internet threads explained how to make this quick fix.

Yeah, AA was on in the Beta builds that I played in. I guess there must have been issues with it. I am forcing AA in the current game without issues now.

It was in the options up until shortly before launch. My guess is that they were having performance issues with it. So rather than launching the game with something that made clients crash, frame rates go buggo or graphics cards melt they temporarily removed it until the issues could be resolved.

Graphics optimizations are typically one of the last elements that comes together in the development cycle. It's not unusual to see some features get held back, although it is unusual for one of those features to be AA.

Could be worse, though. Anyone remember AoC with DX10 on the box but not actually in the game until about a year later? :)
