It remains to be seen if Star Wars: The Old Republic will set a number of records in its lifetime, but it's already made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records for 2012. At over 200,000 lines of recorded dialogue, the game has scored a record for having the largest amount of voice acting not only for a video game but for any entertainment project. The record appears in the Guinness Book of World Records Gamer's Edition, on the stands now in the US and on sale in the UK on the 19th.
Of course, considering the amount of press the game has received for its voice cast, we suspect this won't come as a huge surprise, but it's interesting to see. The book also includes a list of the best Star Wars games in the franchise's history, which unsurprisingly includes Knights of the Old Republic, perhaps a harbinger of SWTOR's future.

Sorry I lost respect for the Guinness Book of World Records when I read that whole XBLA bit about the Best-selling Avatar item on XBLA Marketplace on Destructoid.
The fact that they did not disclose the number(s) sold for me invalidates the record and just looks bad on those reporting it.

wouldn't the number be going up from now on? since the game will be getting constant updates

Define what "constant updates" means to you. I tend to doubt that you are going to see what I would consider fitting the term in regards to voice work. I assume the voice work adds will come with new content/expansion releases since it is so costly and time consuming to develop at the same level that the current work was done at.
Constant updates to me would fit with what Trion pulled off this year with Rift, so you get my perspective on what the term means to me. Though I don't play Rift, I do respect Trion for having pulled off an A+ effort on their updates of content, customer service, communication with their customer base and low PR BS.
Trion set a high bar this year by showing you what a online game company should be doing in its daily operations. Sadly so far Bioware has taken more of a Blizzard hit and miss on how it has operated in regards to the customers and they have made a lot of claims as to what they are going to do as well. We'll have to wait six months to see if it was just all PR smoke and mirrors or if what they proclaim has substance.
I know that I personally am hoping that they end up going the Trion route instead of the Blizzard, SOE or Funcom route. Nothing would make me happier then seeing another company doing business the right way.

At 15 days into launch, please describe for me how TOR is taking more of a Blizzard approach as contrasted with Rift. I was there for Rift launch and I'm really curious where you're coming from, because I don't see it at all.

A rant? I didn't think I was ranting, I was explaining my perception on what I thought "constant updates" might entail and also what I hope Bioware might do in the next six months.
Though if you want I could really go into a long winded, multi-paragraph rant, I used to rather famous for them 10 to 15 years ago. Here I thought I was being positive as to what I do hope from Bioware. No winning with you fanbois is there.

I guess you haven't had a lot of dealing with Bioware's customer service system? I also was there for Rift's start, the game just didn't keep me after a couple months as a side note. I feel bad though because I really wanted to love that game because of how much Trion impressed me with how they operate.

@geololj Except where all of the supposed bans have been refuted EXCEPT the exploiting of Ilum's swapping to instantly respawn goods and let people make thousands and thousands of credits with no risk or effort? Because no player in their right mind would think "Oh, this is intended". Every other game has banned players for doing much of the same sort of thing. When you know it's not intended and you DO IT ANYWAY to your own profit REPEATEDLY...expect to get -suspended-. Which is what actually happened. They were not banned entirely. They were given a timeout.

@geololj .... that was a redit hoax, they didn't ban anyone for it ..at least as far as up to the last update to that article.
THIS IS WHY WE NEED better research BEFORE posting this stuff, massively - most people either only read the headlines, or only read the article once, they dont go back the next day to see if you recanted everything you wrote :) and now disinformation is all over this place.

I am tired of people going on and on over these alleged bans that people claim Bioware is dishing out. Of all of the stupid bans, I don't recall seeing a legitimate stupid ban, only haters jumping at whatever negative press they can come up with. SWTOR has it's faults, and should be criticized for them, but let's put the spotlight on the issues and not hearsay.

Well people were saying TOR should only win awards for the year 2012 instead of 2011, given how late in the year it released...here's TOR's first 2012 award. :P

I did love people's so-called reasons they got "banned" though. "Banned for going to Ilum", really? Like saying a bankrobber was arrested for going to the bank. :P Like anyone goes to Ilum gets banned. :P

Does anyone else read Much faster than spoken dialogue and so just turns on subtitles and skips ahead? Does TOR let you do that?

@xenothaulus
You can turn on subtitles and you can press spacebar to skip the current section of dialogue. I rarely do this myself, though, because the voice acting really is very good. It would be like watching a movie with closed captioning turned on and pressing my remote's advance key every few seconds.
