This article is about Guild Wars; not GW2.

I think your question should be posted in every single blog whether or not it's related to GW/GW2.

I read the whole article thinking about GW2 Elementalist as well. Only when i saw the source link is guildwars.com and not guildwars2.com did i realize. Somehow the article image didn't tip me off. Quite embarrassing.

Oh jeez... just when I got my LDoA warrior out of pre to try for 30/50. Don't they know these kinds of changes only contribute to altaholism? It's a disease, people.

Nice. Just when I got my perma-pre elementalist out of pre because I accidentaly picked a secondary I didn't want.

The game will feel like new again.

These changes are pimp supreme, can't wait to help my girlfriend put together a new build on her ele (pretty much the only character she plays) . The new Mist Form looks like a lot of fun and seems very Guild Wars 2-ish to me. Shockwave is even more brutal than it was. Stone Sheath looks very interesting, although I already run with Save Yourselves.

The new Thunderclap looks crazy good. AoE interrupt, AoE damage, and both AoE Weakness and Cracked Armor. I guess how awesome this is depends on how noticable the Hard Mode changes are, but if Ele damage (particularly Air) is now up to par then Thunderclap looks like a fantastic utility spell; doing some damage, helping lock down targets, and providing two of the best PvE conditions in the game all with one slot. Throw in a Blinding Flash and you're set.

nice surprise, didn't even know it was coming. Figured they were working on the paragon skills.

Reducing armor and raising health is terrible however, its a direct nerf to the mesmer and anyone that uses degen, and degen was terrible already.

@Mikx

That's not what direct means. The hard mode changes are an indirect nerf to armor ignoring damage and regen, not direct. The direct nerf is later in the patch notes, where they actually directly nerf some Mesmer and Ritualist skills.

And, honestly, it was warranted. Mesmers and Ritualists did more damage in PvE than Elementalists while providing FAR more utility. When I'm soloing, the only heroes I ever need are Necros for minions, debuffs, and healing, Ritualists for spirit spam (doubles as fantastic damage while providing survivability since they take hits), healing, and fantastic buffs like Splinter Weapon, and Mesmers for great AoE damage while keeping the enemy locked down. Armor ignoring damage was just too powerful to justify bringing people that didn't take advantage of it.

Heck, one of the most successful hero teams I've seen was all Mesmers (using Mercenary slots).

@Ehra Yeah, I backed into using that word in editing. It replaced "big", but I don't know how large a nerf it actually is.

All mesmer heroes are deadly now, but the important thing is preserving the fun and effectiveness for mesmer players.

Geez Rubi, you must be one happy girl.
Your ele must be getting a heck of a workout.

Hell, even I'm contemplating checking it out.

Ele was my first love. Back before Prophecies was Prophecies, I had a full set of black dyed pyromancer gear.. The pricey kind too! However, as I turned to healing on a monk or being way overpowered on a MM Necro, he lost favor.
As fun as meteor shower is, he never made it far in Factions while my Monk competed EotN.

@KvanCetre
I'm right there with ya. No black dye will ever look as good as that first set.

However, I've stuck with my ele through thick and thin. I'm a little sore that some of the these skill rebalanced were things I think might have been justified five years ago, but I'm thrilled to see my favorite class get some love. It has been rough trying to pug through all the elite content when you're everybody's second choice (at best) for any party role, and it seems somehow fitting that I might get to sit back, relax, and return to my mindless dps roots.

They left Exhaustion in, therefore the update is a complete and utter fail. Doesn't matter that they reduced it to 5 (from 10) in some cases, it's still an excessive penalty - it's the main reason, almost as much as the Hard Mode armor issue, why Elementalists weren't doing enough damage compared to the other spellcasters.

@The Ogre So don't seem to understand elemental magic.

Exhaustion is not simply a 'cost' but also a 'shared recharge'.
While you have energy exhausted, the maximum energy is decreased.

Each point of exhaustion takes 3 seconds to recover.
That means that a skill with 5 exhaustion has an actual 'recharge' of 15 seconds.
Now, with spells that have a skill recharge shorter than their exhaustion recharge, it's in your hands to either wait those 15 seconds, or cast it again, getting another 15 seconds of 'recharge' on top of what you already have.

This is an update I never saw coming, but most welcome. How many times did I have to run another class' build in a high-end pve zone if I wanted to play my ele? No more embarrasing DWG builds in DoA. Shatterstone is the new skill to use. Thank you ArenaNet!
