Just when you thought we couldn't have any more Star Wars: The Old Republic articles (because three out of 15 per day is a lot, amirite?), here's one more for your reading pleasure.
MMOCrunch has sussed out what appears to be a decent-sized drop in TOR's UK sales numbers. According to Chart-Track, BioWare's new MMO fell from the number 10 spot to number 38 in its second week on the market. MMOCrunch speculates that the drop-off in post-holiday shopping is the primary culprit, and we've also yet to see a true advertising blitz like we've seen for games like RIFT and World of Warcraft.
What do you think, Massively folk? Is trouble brewing in a galaxy far, far away, or is it far too early to tell?

I would imagine that many gamers buy games digitally now.

Exactly, not everyone has fat pipe broadband here, I'm on about 3mbs download speed - so 27 gb? - furgeddaboutit !!!.
The real reason I haven't bought it and subbed yet though is not to waste my inclusive free month waiting on a server queue. I'm also not overly impressed with the first load of patch notes and I'm also waiting for some semblance of sandbox at the end of the rollercoaster tracks. Otherwise its going to be a pretty short sub when i reach the end of the class's story and find there is noting else to do.

You will be waiting a long time. There is nothing "sandboxy" about this game.

@silver001 I live in Australia with atrocious download caps and speeds. I still prefer digital.

Good call man. I was gonna wait my usual 3-6 months before getting caught up in the hype machine. Now I'm stuck in a game where gathering is bugged, the economy is where? pvp for lowbies is a sad joke...I could go on.
If Bioware gets on the stick this game might be functional by April. here's hoping.

Sounds like you like single player games because you can always get a guild and run some PvP either in warzones or world. Same excuse I saw people have with RIFT too. MMOs are not get to 50 and then quit. There is always something to do.

@silver001 You'll have to download 20GB+ worth of files even if you do buy a boxed copy. DVDs are limited to 8GB of storage.

Obligatory "game is going to tank because of bad pvp, WoW-clone, end-game content, needz moar sandbox, f2p by end of the year, etc. etc."

Preorders counted at launch vs continual sales. To be expected.

It has sold significantly less at retail than I would've expected from the biggest MMO launch ever.
Maybe the UK just isn't a big market for it, but... think of the worst selling game of last year and I'll bet it sold more than SWTOR did in the UK.

Yep. TOR put too much emphasis on pre-orders, with exclusive bonuses and the first-come-first-served early access.
My guess is that most players that would consider purchasing it at launch, or shortly after, have already gotten it.

@KvanCetre I'm not surprised it's news. Look at the comments for any non-SWTOR post here right now, the be-all, end-all Guild Wars 2 included. Nothing is generating the talk that this game is right now. If Daniel Erickson poops, it will make news right now.
