Well, its a complex game. Now I don't know how much you know about eve online but its about spaceships having space battles in space. Lately though there was en expansion which allowed you to settle planets. Build infrastructure and so on. There is however no pvp on those planets. If someone builds next to you and starts taking your resources there is nothing you can do.

Enter dust 514. You will be able to order an attack on someone else's territory. But why have some AI soldiers running around if you can just make another game and pop up this conflict as a match for players playing that game. So dust 514 will be a fps with a lot of strategy elements battling on the planets of eve. Two games connected like never before.

Now DUST 514 players will create clans. Some will be better then other. You want to hire the good ones? Well, they cost more. So if you will be good, you will be able to charge more as a mercenary, and get better equipment.

If the pvp system works like in eve, and it probably will, then there will be death penalties. Which is the only pvp worth playing tbh. You have to buy the vehicle you will use in the match. And when its blown up, you lost it. Its gone. You gotta buy another. The result of course is that the more you commit, the better the ods, but the greater the loss if you lose.

There is a lot in strategy as well from fitting the vehicles in different ways, to electronic warfare and placement of spawn points.
Read the above article, explains it preety well. There are also trailers on youtube

FPS with small RTS elements in building defenses before a match and the MCC who is sort of like the fleet commander of Eve; no subscription and ~$20 at launch; Mouse and keyboard is easier to use with higher sensitivity and general reaction times. Imo as a skilled FPS player myself its not that big of a deal, ill still be a skilled player because skill goes being technology wielded

Not a PC game.

Not an mmorpg.

Will not greatly affect Eve.

Doesn’t even belong here, except for Massively making money from CCP paying Massively to promote Dust 514.

Console players will play it for a little while then get bored with it.

Eve players will only come over in small numbers because people don’t want to pay for the console separately.

CCP has already said, and with good reason, that Dust 514 won’t much affect Eve, because if it did, that’d give Dust 514 connected people an unfair advantage, bringing on the screams of those who don’t want to essentially be forced to do Dust 514 to stay competitive in Eve. Dust 514 will just be another side show like Faction Warfare, flavor of the month, then left to rot.

Yeah id read up a bit more, in some of the first interviews still at E3 CCP said Dust 514 wont just be about being mercenaries and working jobs of EvE players, they can also take territory of thier own and have a more direct role in industry through planet territory.

Id say that is a pretty big deal when you not only have to concern about EvE competitors hiring Dust mercs to launch an attack on your planet territory, but also soveriegn dusters who have the money doing it themselves.

CCP they will be "turning on the tap slowly" so im assuming you wont see soveriegn dusters at launch, but they since they already announced it they clearly have intentions.

Ah, Dust 514. Another "rich man's hobby" for EVE. It's doomed before it even comes out.

no PC = dust failure

The trick for a shooter is to attract and keep a stable player community that does not defect in 2 months to the next shiny shooter. CCP had that in EVE players and threw that away.

Also, EVE players will be hostile to people logging in from a game they are not allowed to play. I certainly intend to. People logging into joint chat from console and getting "%^$%& off, console shmuck, your kind is not welcome here" will be a great client attraction for CCP, I am sure. The fact that most EVE players are grown ups attracted by universe complexity, and most shooter players are twitchy teenagers is only going to make this allergic reaction stronger.

I suppose CCP signed ~something~ with Sony that ensures console exclusivity. Well, they signed their chance for success away.
