Some people like to drool over car statistics, with their V-8s and turbo-injections and rearview adjustable mirrors. Others like to fawn over every last detail of fictional battle robots as if they were coming soon to a dealership near them. Both, in our opinion, are acceptable.
If you're in the latter category, then you're going to love MechWarrior Online today, as the devs revealed the latest in the 26th century lineup: the CPLT-C1 Catapult. This heavy 'Mech may be a tad on the slow side, but it more than makes up for it with firepower and 10 tons of armor. The two-legged Catapult boasts missiles, lasers, and jumpjets, although it can only go a little less than 65 kph on the battlefield.
The Catapult will be available to the Terran Hegemony and seems suitable for those who prefer slow, powerful brutes to quick, nimble machines. If walking piles of death metal are your thing, make sure to catch up on our preview of MechWarrior Online.

Wait, 26th century? That doesn't sound right . . .

Sure it does, most of the mech designs in the MWO time frame are actually hundreds of years old.

Correction for the editor:
The game is taking place in 3049. The 'Mech (in-universe) was originally introduced hundreds of years earlier, and thus should be available for all factions (the Terran Hegemony has been gone for several hundred years now). It's a fire-support heavy (those two missile racks on the shoulders should make that obvious) that's too slow to run if it gets cornered.

The confusion comes with the home page releasing a fake 'news release' that happened in the 26th century when this version of the Catapult came out for the Terran Hegemony.
Game current time will be 3049 and all House factions will have this iconic mech since over those centuries it was spread across the Galaxy.

Oh SWEET. Nice art, but I am also confident that they will be able to make it look that good in game. Just hope the aging PC can run it without another re-do! lol

I am loving the mech redesigns. If anyone's been around Battletech for awhile, you'll know how atrocious the original designs were. This now looks like a real war machine, with just the right amount of curves and edges.

My second favorite mech, nice to see that it will be around. :) LRM"s for distance, lasers for close up and jump capable.

So will this be a open world sandbox?

Re availability:
Availability could still be limited due to availability of production facilities.
Being legacy Star League tech, they will probably have survived in non-homogenous distribution in the Inner Shere.
While being certainly one of then nice designs, still nothing beats the Marauder and equally the Madcat imho.
I played the Battletech desk top before the design controversies, is the Marauder still in the canon?

Sort of. It's one of the "lost" designs...technically part of the lore but de facto forbidden for further use or development.

The Timberwolf (aka MadCat by the Inner Sphere) is a clan mech. At the current time, the clan invasion has not begun yet. The Inner Sphere has not seen the Timberwolf yet and totally outclasses the Catapult in all areas. It's heavier, more heavily armored, faster, has more weapons, and has better weapons.
The Inner Sphere called it the MadCat because it looks like a mix between a Marauder and a Catapult.

Love the Catapult. Was one of my regular picks on tabletop.

Where's the donut? And what are you going to do if that takes an arrow to the knee?

@PaterFrog All joking aside, I'm seriously interested in this game.
I remember playing some Mech Warrior over ten years back on my grandfather's computer, when we went there to visit him once or twice a year. I was only eight years old or sth? Five hours in a car, just to play Mech Warrior. :D
