According to the latest email blurb from Square-Enix, the 1.20 patch for Final Fantasy XIV contains a "cornucopia of new content, gameplay enhancements, system overhauls, and more adjustments than you can wave a moogle at!"
Flowery language aside, the update does seem rather substantial given that it features a refined party search mechanic as well as the ability to purchase items directly from the market ward's item search. There's a new achievement system too, and it's stuffed with upwards of 300 tasks to complete, many of which lead to exclusive gear and items.
Last but certainly not least, there's an extensive amount of class reform contained in the patch, and you can read the finer details on that at the official FFXIV forums.

I can't wait for 2.0. It's going to be fun to try it out. Also that Bard AF looks fantastic.

my first reaction to patch 1.20 was WTF did they do!? (class revisions)
Now, after a few days I can say it's actually pretty good. I still wish there was more crowd control options early into the leveling process, but if you're team plays correctly it's a non issue. In fact I'm having a blast in EXP parties (grinding) now.
Patch 1.20 didn't bring with it "Content" per say. This was more of a playability refinement patch.
Patch 1.21 (mid February) is supposed to be a big push of content to the game:
1) Iconic Job system (Paladin, White mage, Black mage, Monk, Warrior, Dragoon, Bard)
2) 2 new raid dungeons
3) Hamlet defense
4) Alchemy, Cooking & Gold Smithing recipe revisions
5) quests revolving around iconic jobs starting @ lv 30
6)Grand Company quests
If today was your first day adventuring in FFXIV there is a ton for you to do. Patch 1.21 should keep veterans occupied for a bit.
