World of Warplanes reveals American tech tree, new trailer

Today's a big day for World of Warplanes fans, as Wargaming.net is publishing a bit of info about some of the American fighters to be featured in its upcoming free-to-play aerial shooter. The initial tech tree features two branches full of famous aircraft like the P-51 Mustang, the F4U Corsair, and the F-86 Sabre.

The American lineup also features a unique branch of carrier-based fighters that won't be available with the German and Soviet tiers that will ship with the finished game.

World of Warplanes is currently in closed alpha testing and Wargaming.net tells us that the game is scheduled for a 2012 release. You can check out the American tech tree and a new teaser trailer after the break.

so good. always loved planes. i havent played flight multiplayer since il2 sturm

carrier based fighters? really is that the fat ones that can drop bombs the epic ones hellz yea.

maybe i'm missing my designations somehow, but where is the Hellcat (F6F)? since it was the most successful (with the F4U Corsair) combat aircraft in the pacific with over 5,000 enemy planes shot down, it would seem a no-brainer in the american tech tree...

In addition to the missing F6F, where's the P-36 Lightning, or P-47 Thunderbolt (Jug)? The trailer features a P-39 Aircobra, but like its brother the P-63 King Cobra, I would imagine it falls on the Soviet tech tree, along with MiG, Yak, La, and Il.

that is the american tree as it will be at release. they will no doubt have a planned expansion(s) afterward. they did the same thing in WoT, had minimal trees at release they later add to.

Perhaps the Hellcat, Lightning, and Thunderbolt will be premium airplanes. If so then MAN they really know how to get to a guy's wallet.

@Nounverber Yeah I'd pay for the Thunderbolt...

Anyone else notice they show a p-39...but it's NOT on the tree anywhere...
P51 jet? did that even exist? should have p59 airacomet or Lockheed p-80 in one of those slots also P51A and P51? shouldn't any upgrades just be upgrades and not different planes? How about a P61or twin mustang in one of those slots if we're going to have to pay for a lightning...I like my twin boom aircraft LOL
