It's as if a million gamers cried out in... you know what? We've done that joke too many times, as has everyone else. We're officially declaring it off-limits for the remainder of this game's history. It's a trap, trust us.
And you thought that intro smelled bad... on the outside!
OK, it's all out of our system -- as is Star Wars: The Old Republic. As the game nears its official December 20th launch date, BioWare is bringing down both the servers and the website in preparation for the momentous event. From 7:00 p.m. until 12:01 a.m. EST, SWTOR will be inaccessible.
BioWare says that as the game comes back online at midnight, the studio will be adding "a large number of new servers" to facilitate the influx of launch players. Even so, the studio predicts that queues on popular servers will be present and urges players to consider rolling characters on lesser-populated realms.
Because of the recently instituted grace period, early access players have until 3:00 a.m. EST on December 22nd to register their product codes or be cut off from gameplay.

@Omali Any idea when they will do regular maintenance? Will they have something like a "Real Life Tuesday's"? I remembered starting SWG and they had maintenance every morning, was very depressing. Anyways I know that feeling all to well.

They've already stated that Tuesday will be their regularly scheduled patch day. I believe it was posted in the notes tab in the patcher. Gave me something to read while I waited in queue :)

Why on Earth are they doing maintenance during prime time? Couldn't they do it at 6am like every other MMO? That would have made a lot more sense!

*coughcough* pre-launch maintenance. You know, to make sure that at 12:01 am EST everything is 100% ready to go and all. Why on earth would they want to do that?

@(Unverified) Hum... I wonder why they would bring the servers down... mmmh... let me think... OH! That's it! Maybe because half a million people will be logging in at the same time and they need to prepare and open new servers, apply new patches and so on? Geez people these days... no brain, no brain at all!

My thinking was that they should have done the maintenance at 6am today. Since there is a grace period, anyone in early access would still be able to be playing right now. But I'm sure maintenance schedules were planned way before BioWare changed their mind about the grace period.

@(Unverified) it is better to keep ones mouth shut and let everyone think you are an idiot than to open it and prove them right.

@JuliusSeizure Arkham City is a great game. I'll get back to that too if I ever, I dunno, grow a clone in a vat.

I have a strange feeling that there won't be a huge increase in server population come tomorrow. Anyone who would pick it up at launch likely pre-ordered so they've already been playing for at least a couple days. I think Christmas is going to be when it gets really crazy.
There's going to be a lot of kids playing then, and a lot of people who've never played an MMO. It's going to be an interesting week for sure.
