CCP returns with its weekly DUST 514 announcement via the PlayStation blog. This time around, the company gives us a sneak peek at some of the dropsuits available in its upcoming EVE Online MMOFPS sidequel.
What's a dropsuit?
Well, aside from the latest in sexy sci-fi outerwear, it's also standard equipment for New Eden infantry types and it comes "in a variety of shapes and sizes, each with a unique slot configuration, powergrid, and CPU that inform [customization decisions]." Slot types include light, heavy, sidearm, high, low, equipment, and grenade, and CCP mentions that dropsuits will define your role on DUST's battlefields (as will your choices for the aforementioned slots). Head to the official PlayStation blog for a bit more info as well as a selection of Caldari and Amarr dropsuit images.

Meh if it were on the PC I'd defensibly buy it. I know I know, a lot of people might not agree, but that is their problem, and this is mine. Gief on PC nao!

Yawn....
So from left to right we have sniper type, general soldier, tech and heavy right? You mean just like Global Agenda (free on pc), Tf2 (free on PC) and now Tribes (coming free on PC)....
Yet this game is on PS only and is linked to a ... wait for it... PC game?
I don't think this will remain a PS game for long. I know plenty of folks who are hard core PS fans and have no idea what this game is or what EVE is and would much rather keep playing CoD.

Third from left might be a medic or a tech, either way the comparison still stands.

And you base this on what? that's right, absolutely nothing.
If you would have bothered to read it you would see that with high and low slots coupled with powergrid and cpu they are almost exactly similar to the eve fitting system, which is very complex and allows for a whole rainbow of choices and constant innovation which drastically change the ways wars are fought in eve. From nanofagotry to remote rep doctrines.
It will be very interesting to see what such a complex system does in a fps.

I base it on the picture that they choose to represent their game, which shows no diversity just the same look as classes in a multitude of other fps titles.
Besides the guys that are already into Eve and already have a PS3 I don't see this being a huge hit in the FPS community. All that customization you talk about is also something that keeps folks from the 'pew pew' which is what FPS games are about. Make it too complex and the CoD crowd just aren't going to bite.
Even the blog (yes I did read it) has Caldari Assault and Amarr heavy as it's references and even states above that if you add non standard equipment combos it might be risky. This dissolves down to some of the same choices as what you can 'unlock' in other games. This isn't like EVE where you have thousands of different ships each with different fit loads, this is an fps that has to be constrained into PS3 and why it may not do as well there.

A good chuck of which are crap, and will be eaten alive by any competent PVPer in the "proper" loadout. Yes, you can put lasers on your hurricane, but you would be an idiot to do so.

So all you are REALLY saying is incompetant people lose their ships...
That being said, when a competant PVP'er, who knows his niche, fits to exploit or bait, or capitalize via fitting on an unconventional circumstance is rewarded with kill mails.
Thats what makes eve's robust fitting system brilliant. Every single ship, caught outside of the situation it belongs in is fail. The only real thing a pilot can ever trust is his own skill and that comes from time spent logged behind the guns.

I guess you could put it that way... I would describe it more as "every ship, when caught outside it's situation runs like a little girl until they find 200 of their friends to change the situation to their favor"
Least that was my experience...

I didn't play that when it was called Halo. I'm not going to play it when it's called Dust 514.

@xenothaulus Love these kiddies that think halo was the first shooter, or the first space based shooter, or had original gameplay.

I would prefer it for the PC and if it comes out on the PC I'll be there. From what I have seen, like it or not the PS3 community like the concept of this game.

How much money do I have to pay someone to let me play this game with my xbox controller and not that shitty shitty PS3 one? Shooters using that controller are just garbage. "Aint broke dont fix it" my ass! Update your shit in 15 years please, I have human hands not robotic wall-e arms!
